I use Facebook to communicate with some of my friends.  Not easy in these times to see someone face to face.  However I am irritated by the ads.  Seems THEY latch on to whatever I say or a place I have searched and the next thing I know there is an attempt to sell me something. I am reluntant to leave them at this point but I am very close to just shutting it down on my computer and picking up a phone and calling like old times.

We aren't Facebook's customers. We are Facebook's commodity. We exist on Facebook as products which are sold to different advertisers. If the pace of your scrolling slows at a particular story or add, the algorithm picks that up and you will see more of that. If you share something, forget it. You'll be bombarded based on what you've shared. I swear it even HEARS your conversations
The Artificial Inteligence is designed to anticipate what you will click on next and provides that for you, seemingly put of nowhere

Once you make peace with the fact you're a product and not a customer, FB can be enjoyable.

If you haven't seen it, The Social Neteork is a great movie about how FB operates.

I enjoy Facebook.  It's the only place I know of to connect with people with common interests where we can share tips, tricks, how-to's etc. in groups specific to that interest.  I'm a member of several groups for sewing, gardening, genealogy, greenhouses, my specific sewing machine, my specific serger, etc.

Me too! I have never had an issue with suspension, telemarketers, hacking, etc., and I am on them all: Instagram, TikTok, FB, Snapchat, and pirate sites.

What @chrystaltree said. You've been phished. I hope the people responsible were not able to get any important information from you. All you had to do on your new laptop was to go to facebook and sign in with your email and password. Now? 🤷‍♀️

I had tried it that evening and couldn't get on:  so, guess we'll never know.  I deleted the

correspondence.

I'm confused as you said you tried to change your email.  Just because you now have a gmail account didn't mean you needed to change anything.  And you said you got some kind of a code.  Unless I'm missing something, all you needed to do was go to facebook .com and enter your old email and password.  If you tried to create a new account, then you needed to use a new email address and a new password, and no...since it is a new account, nothing would transfer, because it's a NEW account.  Best of luck to you.

Never joined FB.  My husband did when it first came out and distrusted right away.  My husband left after the first year.  I don't want any parts of it. The only social media I have is on occasion twitter and sometimes nstagram.  I use my phone for those.  The only one I use all the time on my phone is instacart (which only for food shopping, weekly)  Since the forum can't be used on the phone, I use the computer. I noticed a nice trend on campus though.  The kids don't seem to be glued to their phones as they once were.  Time was, they never looked where they were going on campus, sometimes crashing in to things.  Now they don't see to the phone as much as they once did.  Don't know if it's imagination or what.....

@songbird you can access the forum from your phone. Just go to whatever browser you use and type in Qvc.com. The website will come up and just scroll down to the bottom for the blogs/ forums.

I've never joined FB either, and I'm happy about that.
