Re: NO FACEBOOK FOR ME!

[ Edited ]

I read, just in the United States, Facebook is losing 1 million participants a year for several reasons----privacy concerns, or censorship concerns, phishing and fraudulent businesses that advertise in Facebook's Market Place, or they feel its wasting too much of their day, or they are tired of arguments it generates with family/friends....Facebook is making up for it as more people in the Pacific side of the world sign up for the service.......

I volunteer for a non-profit and you would be surprised how many people ask if there is another way they can connect with our organization and get involved other than doing it with Facebook because they donot want to set up a Facebook account or are closing their Facebook account...And this is happening more and more.. (we do have other sources--a Blog, Twitter, or Email, or we can even snailmail a quarterly newsletter).

However, many businesses now require employees to sign up for Facebook, especially with work at home employees, so they can attend Zoom meetings and keep in touch with Supervisors and co-workers on a business level....so some cant break free!!!

My first thought was that this is pfishing, not a communication from FB.  I'd read what Crystaltree had to say here.

I hope you didn't do what the email said.

I'm not a fan of FB, but this could be about something else entirely.  I had a FB acct many years ago and it just really wasn't for me so I left.

A few years ago a friend from another (unrelated) board was helping me try to get back in so I could hang with those friends and it was impossible.  I even tried changing my name a bit and it wouldn't let me register as if I were new there.   To get into the old account was impossible because I've changed email addresses since then.

I enjoy Facebook.  It's the only place I know of to connect with people with common interests where we can share tips, tricks, how-to's etc. in groups specific to that interest.  I'm a member of several groups for sewing, gardening, genealogy, greenhouses, my specific sewing machine, my specific serger, etc.

What @chrystaltree said. You've been phished. I hope the people responsible were not able to get any important information from you. All you had to do on your new laptop was to go to facebook and sign in with your email and password. Now? 🤷‍♀️

this is my thought also @chickenbutt .

this is a phishing email that does NOT come from facebook or have anything to do with facebook.

hopefully the OP did not click on any links.

always good to use a separate email for social media accounts than to use your main email account.

No, @chickenbutt , I did not give them my cellphone # and follow thru with their request.  Instead, I got on their email and replied quite succinctly; however, I'd get kicked off this forum if I repeated it here.  I had wondered too if it was bogus, but the email was in line of fb's typical m.o.

I was insulted and fed up with fb anways.  Only was gonna sign on again, before this, is that a few friends of minein different states would get on our private forum which was kinda fun.  But, it won't be happening now!

I had tried it that evening and couldn't get on:  so, guess we'll never know.  I deleted the

correspondence.

I use FB more for finding out business information than I do "friends".  Almost none of my local businesses list in the Yellow Pages now, and some don't even have websites.  They use Facebook.  It was invaluable when offices were closed at certain times this past year to find out when and if they were open for business.

I also use it to tune into weather coverage when my local TV station goes out during a storm.

I'd love to not have to deal with FB anymore, but it's become almost a necessity for me.  I use it very little for "social" communication.

I deplore social media sites like facebook. Lots of junk on that site that you have to contend with.  I can keep track of my friends and family via other methods.  I don't need Facebook to do that.

@Spurt you don't need Facebook to do zoom.  I thought you had to, but it turns out you just download the app on your cell, laptop or whatever to use it.  I will be using it soon and told the person setting it up "I don't do Facebook."  She said you don't need Facebook.
