I spent all day searching articles online and sending to patrons via email.  Our turn around time is within 24 hours.  I work in ILL, so like the public libraries, we do lend/borrow books.  But most of the our research in in articles.  All of the books are forgiven.  We borrow/lend from universities around the world.  They are in the same fix we're in.   I'm dong lending and borrowing articles.  I switch back an forth with another coworker.  There were a lot.  Almost 100 requests.

I worked from 8:00 to 4:30  with either a half hour lunch and two breaks.  Just as if I was in the office.  We have a time sheet online (we've always had that)  which we fill how many hours I worked.  The hours are also recorded on the computer.

After I knocked off from work, I went with my husband (he works from home 4 days a week....this was set up before the virus trouble) to buy food.  I usually depend on Amazon Fresh, But Fresh and Instacart can't deliver.  They are logged under thousands of people who have joined them, trying to get groceries.  Husband told me Amazon is hiring another 50,000 (to the 100,00 to be hired) These positions are mostly driving and delivering to your door.   Amazon pays very well.  Not only do you get wages, and health benefits you get their stock!!!  They very badly need drivers.  Instacart is not as big, so they are in real trouble. Also clogged up are smaller home deliveries.  Also food orders for home like Grubhub, etc.

Anyway our first grocery trip in over 6 months.  First of all police.  One squad car in front and officers in the store. So no fights broke out.  3/4 of the store was stripped clean.  NO BREAD!!!!  NO MILK,(though I don't drink the stuff)  Obviously not TP and no sanitizer.  No liquid soap.  Things got really gritty  searching. We have exactly 6 rolls left of TP in the house. We got some prepared and bags of salad.  We eat salad everyday for lunch. A women grabbed the last loaf of bread.  I managed to get 2 bags of 6 rolls each. Very little meat but I managed to get a roast. . I did managed to some cold cuts and cooked chicken I can tear in to strips along with cheese to put in our salads. I got some bland hot dogs, frozen meal foods, like Healthy Choice, etc.  A lot of those. I could not find my unsweetened apple sauce! We zoomed through the store.  Trying to get in and out of it as quickly as possible.  The lot was filled to the brim with cars.  Ugg...hated that shopping trip.  We've enough frozen food for this week and most of next.  But we're going to have come back in for fresh food.  When I got home I searched and FOUND TP! in amazon.  I purchased 8 rolls. 3 ply biodegradable, no brand name on the front. No sanitizers left in Amazon. Zippo.  I also purchased 24 bottles of FI JI water (my favorite water)  and 2 big bottles of fabric softener,  and ordered 3 pacs( 90 coun)t of Hefty plastic bags.  When I was finished, the door bell rang.  Amazon came through!  I got 4 liquid anti bacterial (Dial) foaming hand soap.  Plus 3 bags of kitty litter.  I could have kissed the driver. Plus 2 big bottles of Tide.  4 tooth paste (almost out)  All on my front porch.  It was a gold mine.  My medically prescription....I forgot all about it, remembered it.  We went to Walmart drive through for prescriptions.  Great service!  Every drug store should have it.

Amazon has a distribution center in a 2nd? or 3rd? ring suburb from my city. They have a reputation for treating their employees poorly.

My cousin in Florida said the same about her Publix. People pushing, standing close, a fight was in the parking lot. Police were called.
I've shopped the past three weeks stocking up, not hoarding. If I'm careful I should have enough to last several months before eating dog food.

I've talked to several employees.  They work hard, but the pay is good for non college people.  You can buy their stock.  They take it out of your paycheck.  In addition to excellent health benefits, they offer excellent dental insurance at no extra cost!  I'm a state employee, so I get great health insurance, but crummy dental insurance. I think they treat their employees very well.  I put up with tough physical labor to get that pay and benefits.

Sounds like the kind of week most of us have had. I've found my local grocers (if you have one) are much better than the national ones. Sorry you had a bad shopping day - most of us have been there, but we carry on!

I went to the grocery store today too. They had signs limiting eggs, toilet paper, the on sale chicken, ice cream and a few other things. The eggs and tp were sold out but it was after 4 pm so no surprise. I didn't want either since I get my eggs from a farm and don't need tp.There was still meat, milk, lots of bread, and frozen things.

It was busy, no one wearing face masks, and everyone was patient and polite. They had put a line on the floor at the back end of the check out lanes with a sign to stay behind it while the person in front checked out. I got every thing I wanted.
