@golding76. I also selected my Mt Rushmore artists for the same reason you did. But If they did not write their songs they would not make the final cut.

I agree with so many here.  I have lived thru eras of music and love them all (except rap, I just don't understand it), but I always go to my Mark Knopfler station when I want good music.  & Alison Kraus.  Magic!  Great choices on this thread!

Major Impact:  Beatles, Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones....probably Prince/Eagles/Dylan too...maybe Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon)

and Zeppelin ought to be included

Edited:  How could I forget The King....Elvis!

Hmmm, for someone who's always been obsessed with all types of music I could write a dissertation on this, but I'll try to keep it short.  For me, personally, I'm basing my choices on what was in my record collection and what's currently on my iPhone that I listen to the most. It would have to be, in no particular order:

The Beatles

Stevie Wonder

Paul Simon (w/Garfunkel too)

Frank Sinatra

Honorable mention:

Miles Davis, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Erroll Garner, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Talking Heads, Neil Young, Elton John, Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones, The Bee Gees.
