So I just finished watching the new Elvis biopic and got it got me thinking who are the four musical artists who have had a major impact on music (this should be good)? For me it's The Beatles, Elvis, and Michael Jackson. Now for fourth place I might say Bob Dylan (more for his songwriting ability than his voice), but you can make a case for David Bowie (innovating), Prince, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, and Billy Joel. So, who's your Mount Rushmore?

Re: Mount Rushmore

[ Edited ]

As a young person I liked all kinds of music, but just focusing on rock/R&B and excluding people mentioned in the OP:

Sam Cooke ("A Long Time Comin'"), Taj Mahal, The Who, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, Blondie.

And I have to move back to Roy Orbison, too, though he was Rockabilly.

The sound and the style of these folks, sometimes mainly their individual voices, sometimes the whole accord of the arrangements?

Mount Rushmore for me.

Without giving it too much thought, the ones that come to mind are:

Elvis

The Beatles

Buddy Holly

Dolly Parton
