Message from Best Buy

[ Edited ]

To Our Customers,

Across the country these past several days, you have come to our stores to buy the technology and household necessities that are so valuable at a time like this. We remain determined to continue to serve you and are announcing today a new way of making our stores accessible while even further enhancing customer and employee safety.

In our stores

Beginning Sunday, March 22, we will offer contactless curbside service at all locations across the country where state or local laws allow. Rather than ask you to come into our stores, any items you order on online or the app order the product in advance and the product is in stock in the store, one of our employees will be more than happy to go get it in the store and sell it to you while you remain in your car. This service also extends to returns and exchanges, the period for which has been extended on most products so that you have more time. Only employees will be allowed in the store, but we are determined to serve you as fully as we can. Unfortunately, we are temporarily unable to continue our product trade-in and recycling services.

For those who want to continue shopping with us online or on the app, we will, of course, still get you what you want.

In your home

As you know, Best Buy works in millions of customer homes each year, and we have long been proud of the services we provide. Because of the increased concern for you, your families and our employees, we have made the decision to suspend currently scheduled installations, haul-aways or repairs for large items like refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers and TVs.

Beginning Monday, March 23, we will no longer deliver these large products into your home and will, instead, offer free doorstep delivery. This means we will take the item as close as we possibly can to the front door of your home without bringing it inside. We know that this change will be inconvenient, and we are truly sorry. It was made with our employees' and your best interests at heart. If you have an order scheduled for installation in the next 30 days, please expect an email or text from Best Buy about your delivery options.

Employees

Speaking of our employees, everyone working right now is doing so on a voluntary basis, and all hourly employees who volunteer are receiving a temporary pay increase. Additionally, anyone feeling sick is told to stay home, and they will be paid for that time. Finally, anyone exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19 is also told to stay home, with pay, and we are paying employees who may need to stay home to care for their children.

All of us at Best Buy are grateful that so many states and localities believe we are an essential business, allowing us to continue to serve you when you need it most. We thank you for your patience and loyalty and look forward to continuing to provide you with the technology and home essentials you require to stay connected and work and learn from home. Thank you.

Woe unto those expecting delivery and set up of major appliances. From what I understand they will deliver at front door , period. Up to you to get help getting in house and setting up . Hooking up to water supply if it's a refrigerator.  Washer or dryer getting it level, hooking up to pipes.  We pray we don't need a new furnace or water heater during these times.

I hope I don't have an appliance go out.  That would be awful to have your refrigerator or washing machine go out and not be able to have a new one delivered.  I understand why they're doing this though.

Some places will do it for free, some charge like 30 I think.

I wasn't sure if QVC would allow it, but, they haven't poofed it yet.

Just wanted to let all know you have to stay in your car and they bring stuff out to you that they can handle.  Big screen TV's I have no idea how that would be handled I guess be in box put on your truck or if you can get them to deliver have a couple of folks to help you get in house.

Everything is just in a mess now ! I've never had to live thru something this awful before and I'm no Spring chicken.

(think they just took out the link to best buy is all which is fine)

Don't you feel bad for folks who think come Monday the folks from Best Buy will be coming out to hang your new TV you've got an appointment, now, that's called off.

So far this week, I've had cancelled dentist teeth cleaning, cancelled hair cut appointment. Suppose to get eyes checked post cataract surgery I guess that's good, won't know till I show up and see if doors are locked on Mon.

It's nice Best Buy has some helpful policies at this time, but beware if you're thinking about getting the Best Buy credit card or using it.

I had a Best Buy card that I recently cancelled.  I was the highest tier because I'd bought promotional items (no interest for 12 months), but I found their credit card policies to be a pain.  For example, I noticed I was being charged interest even though I paid in full each month.  I found out it was because they have something called "revolving balance."  My bill was due on the 12th but the monthly cycle closed on the 17th, so anything I purchased between the 12th and 17th accrued interest!  How am I supposed to pay interest when I haven't even gotten billed for those items?  Hours and hours of dealing with them on that, and my takeaway was just don't use the card from the 12th to 17th.

I would pay extra each month to cover all of that month's purchases and I intended the extra to go toward the promotional purchases (no interest for 12 months items).  However, I'd get the next month's statement that showed they applied the extra payment to the new purchases rather than applying it to the items I was paying off.  I learned you have to call and ask to have that extra to be applied to promotional items.  I would do that, but the statements would arrive to show they didn't apply the extra payment to promotional items like they said they would.

Too many hours tied up with their customer service to make me decide to just cancel the card.  It was nice earning certificates to decrease payments on future purchases, but overall the hidden interest charges and they don't automatically apply extra payment to promotional purchases was just too much of a hassle for me.

I've heard two car commercial in the past twenty four hours, one for Chevy and one for Buicks, where they say to choose a new car on line and they'll bring it to your house.  These were company ads, not dealerships.

It's absolutely pointless to deliver a major appliance to anyone's front door, not install it and leave the old one in place. One can only hope sanity will prevail and there will continue to be some vendors who realize that if you need a major appliance, you need it installed. There are other ways to help ensure safety than to leave a freaking washing machine sitting on the doorstep. I sincerely hope all these measures are only temporary and that some of these businesses claiming to be oh so concerned about our safety are not going to use this debacle as a way to shift the paradigm permanently going forward. Cynical? Yes, I am.
