This isn't about "whose authority" .....  just a little common sense would be nice!    Not only does the given name last a lifetime, but an odd name will cause plenty of teasing all through school.   

@Tinkrbl44 I find that no matter what a child's name is, it could be the cause of teasing by mean spirited kids. Bullies no matter the age will find any excuse to pick on anyone!  One man's "odd name" is another one's normal! Why do we have to be the same?
