I was wondering that, too.
About a week ago, the local news reported two children had died of measles in CA. I believe it was last night when it was reported there are now 100 active cases of measles in CA.

I hate seeing the rumors in the news, because it probably will spark someone's interest and they'll give it a try.
Hi dBd
They were real when I was a kid. A couple of mothers asked my mother if their kids could come over and play when I had measles. She told them I was too sick to play.

My nephew, his wife, and their 6-year-old daughter were at Disneyland around Christmas. Thankfully, my niece is a nurse so they are all vaccinated against measles.
This stat in itself would scare the heck out of me:
A 1988-91 measles outbreak caused about 75 deaths in California alone, most involving babies and children under age 5.

It must have been a practice back in the dark ages of the 1930's and 1940's because I never heard of such a thing. I kinda think today these so called measles parties are a just an urban legend. I can't see any parent doing that. I wonder how they would explain that to a child who contracted measles and suffered damage to the optic nerve and ended up blind. How would that conversation go? Mommy purposely blinded you because vaccines are dangerous.......

Post Dark Ages for me: the mid to late 1950's.
