There's a thread in the Health & Fitness board called

""Measles making a comeback?""

Sorry- Jezzebelle- I should have looked at health before I posted.

As someone who grew up before there were vaccines except for smallpox, I know how really ill innocent-sounding childhood disease can make you. I just can't imagine deliberately making a little one ill. Seems as if the risks of that are far greater than those from the vaccines.

I'd heard about that being done with chickenpox years ago. When my daughter was little, before the vaccine was available, a child in the neighborhood had chickenpox and my mother advised that I expose her. I didn't. She eventually got the chickenpox anyway. No way would I have done that on purpose.

Measles is so much worse. That is one dangerous disease that can cause serious, lifelong complications and even death. Any parent that does that, instead of allowing their child to get the vaccine, should be held criminally responsible.

When we were kids, parents took non school age children to homes with measles. Back then there wasn't a vaccine.

To do that now seems criminal. Why would anyone prefer their child be sick?

Yes the article I posted said some of the anti-vaxxers got more stupid ideas and think by exposing their children to the disease they'll get sick & then be immune. BIZARRO!

Stupid ideas is right, but then their original idea not to vaccinate wasn't too bright in the first place.

No apology needed Millie! Not everybody reads all the boards, I just thought some posters might want to know about that thread, it's very in-depth on the topic.Smile

For what it's worth but they haven't been wrong yet:

SNOPES is clasifiying this "FALSE".

"Public commentary concerning the outbreak became increasingly polarized, and the rumor about measles parties in California fueled debate over parental responsibility and public health." Then Fox ran with the assumption people were doing this...then another news outlet said something.....before you knew it, the Internet made it "Fact". It was all 'wildly exaggerated.
