Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

[ Edited ]

I would say excess, not greed, and bad decisions. The recession over 19 months in 2007 and 2008 didn’t help.

Yes, they brought out new dishes but the original ones were still available. I don’t see that as a cause.

I thnk the homestead was was a great idea but never understood why they thought a golf course was needed.

I have L baskets and use the blue pottery. The baskets are cheap now on the secondary market but was shocked to see what the classic blue pottery sells for on the replacement site.

Won’t be buying anymore since I’ve been downsizing. But I will take the Christmas ones out of the closet to decorate for the holiday. Wish I had a dil or daughter interested in having them but oh, well.

Does anyone remember the outrageously huge estate type place Tami built? Could probably still find some pics online. It sure was unbelievable.

Yes i remember.  Weren't her business decisions the beginning of the end for Longaberger?

@Kalli @Shawnie That's was when I decided to stop selling the line (not like I sold a ton, lol). They changed the shape of the dishes, they changed the color of the dishes, they started bring out purses and junkie jewelry and well....it was getting weird. Then when you saw Tammy's estate....holy moly. I remember one of the meetings I attended when pictures of it were shown (not by the regional person but by salespeople) and it got ugly REAL fast. It was SO over the top compared to the house their parents had lived in.  All the changes, the pottery going to China, the laying off of so many people, the cost of the baskets going up and THEN seeing her estate? That was a big part of why so many of us said "See ya!".

To say greed was the demise of Longaberger would be accurate (and to be fair, not just on Tammys' part).

I do hope they can revive the brand at the old quality.  I have many.  But around here you can't even sell them at a garage sale.  People just walk on by, don't even inquire.  I have given away a lot.  But still have the best ones.  I liked that they offered the basket in pewter, that wash is clearly something that will mesh with a contemporary decor I think.  They made a mistake not including a plastic liner in my opinion.  The handle is ok, i have several with stationary handles including a huge round easter basket in the white wash.

Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

I bought Easter baskets for both of my children and they are the cutest, well made baskets.  I inherited from my parents, but don't really decorate with baskets, other than at Easter.  To me, it looked as if the splints weren't as tightly pushed together on the new QVC basket, as the older baskets.  Hope all enjoy the new basket, and would love to see Longaberger bring back Easter baskets.

I've noticed those baskets for some time, too.  In fact, I have one just like it and it is a Peterboro basket.

Seeing these baskets on set had me wondering if they were going to sell baskets again.

The description says Made in the USA.

There are 12 five star reviews but it doesn't appear anyone has actually received their item yet.  They are all talking about their current collection.

@VaBelle35  Yes, another case of people posting non-reviews n the review section. I don’t know why TPTB allow it!

Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

QVC doesn't seem to think it impacts sales to allow these types of reviews.  They'd rather put their money elsewhere (or they are forced to put their money elsewhere).

In this case it works in their favor if people are too lazy to read the reviews and just look at the fact that it says five stars and there are 12 reviews.

Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

Back in the day, my friends and I were all into these baskets. Everyone in our circle of friends had basket parties and we all used to make yearly trips to Dresden to visit the factory and go into the basket building.  LOL

I still have some baskets out but I have an entire 39 gallon garbage bag full of these baskets that I just no longer use or want.  I won't throw them away but you can't even give them away at a garage sale.   I even sold a ton of them back when you got really good money for them.

You didn't get any better quality than Longaberger baskets.  Peterboro didn't come close.

I own and still love the pottery but I'm not interested in anymore.  I wish I had all the money back that I spent on those baskets.
