Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

I was not into the Longerberger collecting. Bought one oe two from coworkers who had parties, however I bought them  to  give them away as presents. Too expensive for me  and I did not decorate in the basket style.

They were popular in the 80', 90's, and early 2000's. Especially during the craft movement.  Wood dolls, hand made items, mop dolls, rocking horses and woodcarousels. Along with peach  and celedon combos and French blue and mauve items.  Lords knows I had this stuff.

i have 2 longabergerpicnic basket purses.  I love them.  I havent worn them in a while but I lovethem and when i do wear them people stop me everywhere.  Well made, and unusual.  I don't know how well they will sell on QVC.  They did sell a peter..something basket not too long a go.  Iforget the name.  I dont know who uses them but the saying, "everythingold is new again" is true.  Geesh, I caught my granddaughter coveting a pair of mom jeans.  I nearly passed out, lol.  She bought them after I left. She wears them.  All the clothes she chooses have vibes from eras past.  Were there any clothes that were cute in the 80's...i dont think so

I don't care for the stationary handle.  It's fine on a market basket or an Easter basket.  But on a $50 Longaberger basket, it looks out of place.

Also, the presentation didn't shed any light on the "veneer."  The vendor rep - a Longaberger family member - said the basket was made of solid maple wood, whatever that means.

@ValuSkr

I didn't find the basket exciting nor was the rep.  From the background of a wonderful company that went bankrupt (or whatever) I would think she would be excited, enthusiastic or more having a chance to rebuild the product (company) on a platform like QVC..

Actually, looked like even David was having trouble getting excited or finding things to say but bring on those biscuits he was super excited😉

Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

I have been a basket lover since I was young. My mom gave me my first antique basket when I was in college. Then my friends started giving them to me. I made a light ship basket in Virginia once. I've made some others too. I have them from all over the US. So in the late 80's, when my friend asked me if one of them was Longaberger - which I had never heard of, and my basket wasn't - I had to find out what they were! It didn't take long until I was buying them regularly, and I was with them until the company went under.

It's good to see Rachel so involved. Maybe this is the perfect time for her. I had heard years ago that she didn't want to be that involved. They came out with a jewelry line with her name on it, but I thought it was really overpriced and some of the items went on clearance. Tami was the one you usually heard about.

I went on some of the famous "bus trips" when the company was in its prime and when Dave was alive. I got to visit the Big Basket shortly after it opened. Good memories! Smiley Happy

Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

Back in the day, I had a cousin that sold Longaberger baskets.  So I have 2.  One is the magazine basket and the other one is a smaller round basket that has a wooden top that fits the basket.  It is blue.  I do still have that basket in my bedroom because it is perfect for putting the extra buttons for sweaters, etc. in there.  I always know where a spare button might be located.  lol

However, I am not interested in more of these baskets at this time.  I do have several of the Peterboro baskets that QVC used to sell.  I use those every 4th of July, Christmas, and New Year's Eve.  I love those plastic liners that are divided and make fruit, or cheese trays with those every year.  They have held up very well and can't believe they are still in great shape after using them as much as I have over the years.

Longaberger baskets...ehh. I have 2 that I purchased from a party a neighbor had many years ago. The boat shaped one is filled with shells and is used for display only in my bathroom.  The other is a regular square handled basket. have been using it for mail.  I'm  just not into baskets. I purchased them 'cause I went to a party.  Won't be purchasing any more.

Re: Longaberger coming to QVC

I have L baskets and use the blue pottery. The baskets are cheap now on the secondary market but was shocked to see what the classic blue pottery sells for on the replacement site.

Won’t be buying anymore since I’ve been downsizing. But I will take the Christmas ones out of the closet to decorate for the holiday. Wish I had a dil or daughter interested in having them but oh, well.

Does anyone remember the outrageously huge estate type place Tami built? Could probably still find some pics online. It sure was unbelievable.

@Kalli @Shawnie That's was when I decided to stop selling the line (not like I sold a ton, lol). They changed the shape of the dishes, they changed the color of the dishes, they started bring out purses and junkie jewelry and well....it was getting weird. Then when you saw Tammy's estate....holy moly. I remember one of the meetings I attended when pictures of it were shown (not by the regional person but by salespeople) and it got ugly REAL fast. It was SO over the top compared to the house their parents had lived in.  All the changes, the pottery going to China, the laying off of so many people, the cost of the baskets going up and THEN seeing her estate? That was a big part of why so many of us said "See ya!".

To say greed was the demise of Longaberger would be accurate (and to be fair, not just on Tammys' part).
