@proudlyfromNJ wrote:I still cry when I hear Me and Bobby McGee. The words 'I'd trade all my tomorrows for one single yesterday' always gets me.
I never appreciated that line at the time of the song's popularity, but I sure do now.

What wonderful songs he wrote. All his songs were distinctive and moving.
.
The chorus from my favorite:
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose;
Nothing ain't worth nothing, but it's free.
Feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues,
Feelin' good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee.
He was a gifted actor, a Rhodes Scholar, but most of all gave us all the gift of rhyme set to music.

I am really sad. Been playing his music all day. Bob Dylan,and Kris ar ejust my favorites. No one leads Bob Dylan, but Kris comes close. What a brilliant man. He was so smart, talented, kind and gave so much in his life. Sorry to hear , but he had a long life and a good life.

My favorite song by Kris is "Why me Lord". What have I ever done to deserve even one of the pleasures I've known. Could never get enough of that song and it always bring tears to my eyes. That voice!!
Will continue listening to his music forever. Love you Kris!!
@Sage04 " Why me Lord ". was my favorite too . The way he sings it ..... it does bring tears to my eyes every time I hear it . " Sunday morning Coming Down". Close 2nd. That is a very depressing song . Johnny Cash's version is even sadder if possible . He had the kindest eyes , very handsome as well . From all accounts a wonderful man . Rip Kris.

@Kitty Galore Oh wow!! Those lyrics and that voice has really done a number on me. I saw a video about how that song came about. It said he wrote that song after attending a worship service in Nashville that night.
For years everynight he would put me to sleep along with a few other Country singers. Spotify has really done a great job for me. Nothing better than waking up a few times during the night and hearing his voice. I can't remember ever feeling this way about someone I have never met in person. He was really all that!!
I had never heard the one song he wrote for Johnny until a few days ago. Only Kris could do something like that lol.

@Sage04 I had heard years ago that the song came about just the way you wrote . I feel he must have been moved to write this particular song from whatever the service empowered him to. Which makes it all the more very special when you listen to it .
