I'm aware that there are those who don't like Kohl's for whatever reason (and don't shop there).

However, I do and will continue to do so.  I've gotten a lot of things from Kohl's over the years and our stores are clean and safe.

Any "story" of crime is more of a reflection on that community; not the individual store.

If criminals are stealing from one store, you can bet they're stealing from others.  And that's a matter for the law.

Unless and until my local stores become like the old-time Wild West, I'll continue to shop as usual.

@Trailrun23  The original post ended with a warning to Kohl's customers that Kohl's was putting staff and customers at risk for failing to stop the theives from looting the store and carrying out arm loads of merchandise. No where have I read that Kohl's has more theft than any other store. This was something that someone saw on Nextdoor and passed it along like fact and we all know how that usually turns out.

All stores have some degree of shoplifting but I do not believe that in general Kohl's customers need to demand armed guards in all stores. If a particular store is located in an area with a high crime rate that's different.

i have a family member who works for NORDSTROM.

the employees are told not to do anything except contact store security as long as they are still in the store. once they get into the mall area then mall security has to be the ones who apprehend them.

have never had any issues at our kohls.

I've enjoyed our local Kohl's, which is a pleasant place to shop.  I don't believe in general that any one chain is automatically dangerous to consumers.  You do have to use your best judgment.  There's no doubt that certain stores, of all kinds and brands, are suffering terribly from our surging crime situation.  Am hoping that the entire justice system will right itself at some point, and lawlessness will be dealt with effectively.

More than anything, our Kohl's seems to have suffered from supply chain issues --  the selection they offer is reduced somewhat from what it was.

It is normal policy for Store's to instruct employees NOT to confront shop lifters. That is for the safety of the employees and other customers in the store.   Employees are directed to contact store security who will work with local police.  When I was trained at Kohls that is what we were told to do.

I would nver follow one of the thieves. What good would it do? If they are that brazen, they could also have a weapon. I haven't been in a Kohl's in quite a while, but if I saw that happening even once i would never go back. Unless they protect their employees, they will leave too. They need security guards at the door who are not afraid to "detain" the thieves or at least relieve them of their haul and send them away.

Kohls is already having financial problems; stuff like this could finish them off...Walgreens has already closed a lot of stores for the same reason.

What is wrong with people??!! When I was in NYC a few years ago, most of the dept stores had a cop at the door and they only let a certain small number of customers in at a time. They had ropes up and long lines waiting to get inside. No thanks.

Just curious, where in NYC were you and which stores were they. The only time I have ever seen lines to get into a store was during the pandemic when capacity was limited or a special event. There are security guards, not police at the doors of stores. Our cops work hard and have other things to do like responding to crime.
