This makes me heartsick. How evil Isis is.
There are many passages in the Bible that allow us to defend ourselves. Most Christians I know believe in self defense. If this Priest felt the need not to lift a hand against another man....that is his right. We don't know that he might have tried to help or protect others such as the nuns and/or the people he served. I don't know....but either way that was his choice. We are to love others and not kill out of vengeance but rather for self protection. He may very well have given up his life for the sake of others. May he RIP.
I edited this to add...... I am sure the Pope is not in favor of genocide.

It really is shocking that ISIS did this. The pope is wrong to support this migration, given that ISIS has been and will be among them. It is madness, and more terror attacks will result. I hope not, but the Associated Press quoted a European police official last week as saying 400 suicide bombers are in Europe and reay to attack at any time.

I'd actually be shocked if Pope Francis came out and said that we should attack ISIS with violence. That would go against the very teachings of the Church he is called to lead. Plus, that is not his arena. That is for the heads of state of the various countries around the world to do.
This is a war we are fighting on multiple fronts. Shouldn't compassion for the innocents caught in the middle still remain an integral part of this fight?
Edited to add: I do disagree with Francis on the unchecked migration issue, when it's clearly showing that fighters have been cloaking themselves in the migrant population as a way to further infiltrate Europe.

I'm reading conflicting reports on this.
Below was posted 5 hours ago on Catholic Online. Catholic News is repeating the same.
"...Church officials are denying that Fr. Tom has been crucified, explaining that they have received no official confirmation of the killing. The Austrian cardinal responsible for the initial announcement has also retracted his statement..."

@Ms X- the Catholic Church has a long history of providing sanctuary to the immigrant population. Catholic Charities gets a good amount of their revenue from the US government for relocation services. I don't think Pope Francis is empowered to or inclined to change a longstanding history of humanitarian aid to immigrant populations.

We're talking about an infiltration by ISIS. A good solution would have been to create sanctuaries in the Middle East for those truly in need of sanctuary. JMO.

It would be great if he's alive and they'd let him go! It doesn't sound like something ISIS would do, though.
