The Pope does not make the rules.
I do not understand why so many don't get that.
What he preaches is basic Christianity: take care of the poor and feed the hungry. Be the Good Samaritan. Turn the other cheek. That's his job.
No, Christians don't follow all the rules or edicts.
No one is forcing any of us to follow a certain religion, thankfully.

Just my personal opinion, but I told my daughter long ago that she should study about the Bible, OT and NT, and about a variety of religions.
Why? Because it's important to many, religion has influenced art and music and literature.
People don't have to be believers, but for goodness sake, we should at least be able to understand the basics of what guides and influences much of the world.

@Noel7 absolutely! It's really only been in what...less than the last 200 years that religion stopped being the most dominant influence in art and literature? Maybe even less?
I talked with some people today about the kidnapping and the priest and nuns. Prayers are still being offered about this situation, especially since it's not widely reported still but more is coming out.

Lot of rumors flying around. The most recent info says ISIS is demanding a multi-million pound randsom.
From Express UK a few hours ago:
"... And tonight Indian government sources have confirmed the receipt of a video ransom note from ISIS terrorists, according to broadcaster IBN Live.
According to the sources the video showed Father Thomas, a Salesian priest, staring down the camera and asking for help with a man standing behind him.
They added that despite the film, there is no official confirmation on whether the clergyman is dead or alive..."

Why aren't the major networks covering his kidnapping. His death isn't confirmed but his kidnapping certainly is. Someone up thread was insinuating this whole story is just a rumor because the big news shows are not talking about it. How much more proof does one need to believe that this priest was kidnapped and possibly killed.
