@Tinkrbl44 "Makes me wonder if there's been an increase in young people legally changing their names because they hated them.  Sure you can always adopt a nickname, but the legal name sticks forever."

I remember reading about Barbara Hershey's and David Carradine's son.  They named him Freedom.  When he grew up he changed his name to Tom.  With that name it was obvious he was a child of the sixties.

OMG, yes, I remember that!

Funny, but of all the odd celebrity-named children we've heard about, I would have bet that Gwynyth Paltrow's daughter Apple would have been the one to change her name!  She kept it.

Re: Kid's Names These Days

[ Edited ]

I was one who thought Apple a crazy name but not so much now for some reason.

I remember when I was a kid in the '70s and Sonny & Cher were big. People were aghast that they named their daughter Chastity. He's Chaz now but that's another story.

I don't know.  When the family was told the name, we just googled it and "bird" came up.

Look up the most popular names of 100 to 150 years ago.

Pick one that sounds good with your last name. If your last name has only one syllable then pick a name with two or three syllables. If your last name has three syllables, pick a name that has one syllable or two. It your last name has two syllables -- do WHATEVER!

Trendy names and oddball spellings are all the rage- Name of "Maverick" may be troublesome in school (hope not for his sake).

The oddball spellings are crazy where people will constantly have to spell it out for their whole life-

I have a cousin who named her boy Ciaran, pronounce it "Keerin". What? Really? So dumb in my opinion.  And my name is impossible for anyone to say correctly or spell- so I speak from experience!

@Solar Is My Name  My first and last name combined has a total of 7 letters ... lol! One syllable first name, one syllable last name (well, due to marriage!)... 😜
