Why does it matter? What a boring world if everyone liked the same thing?

So, to the people who feel that a tea bag beats the K-cup can I ask you a question?

Do you own a Keurig? Just curious.

Have you ever had tea made with a Keurig? Most of us who say we like the Keurig better own a Keurig. I'm wondering if everyone here owns a Keurig. I ask that because that is the only way this could be judged fairly.

I own a Keurig. I stated that I've often used both. I don't always use the Keurig when I make a cup of decafinated black tea. It depends on my mood and how much time I have. I have new cats.

I'm still learning his habits. Right now I don't feel good using the stove to walk away and come back until I see what he's been allowed to do.

Of course I won't let him get up on the counters or near a stove. However, until he shows me what he can do, I find the Keurig a safe answer.

There is nothing WRONG with a cult following. Its not always a label for stupid behavior, sometimes it just means that group is ahead of the curve. I'm questioning the expense. I know a guy living on disability who is paying 80 cents per K cup and drinks coffee all day. He could throw out a lot of stale coffee for what he spends. My dentist has a Keurig for patients, that one cup of coffee makes my dental visit more pleasant.

I own several types of coffee machines: regular and espresso Keurigs and a CBTL. I drink coffee from my keurig all day but will often brew/steep a pot of tea. I use a frothier with my CBTL when I want that special coffee experience.

Your previous statement - "I think Keurig has a mystique, a cult following. That's the only reason I can come up with to explain why people put up with the steep price of both the machine and the cups."

You're right, it's not an automatic denigration to use the term "cult" based on the dictionary definition of cult, however it IS pretty much used that way at least here in the U.S. Looking at it in the context of what is written, I'm sorry, but you were most definitely using it as a put down and I doubt it was unintentional.

How exactly do you know what the guy on disability spends on his k-cups? Do you do the buying for him, balance his checking account? Most people who exclusively use K-cups get them using coupons or buying on-line through clubs that provide bulk pricing bringing the price down to around .50 per cup of coffee. Perhaps he skimps on other things so he can enjoy his coffee the way he wants and how he wants? Just more of the same - judgements based on something you don't understand or like.

True. I'm always cynically amused by people who take issue with someone using a Keurig or any other device because they are "wasting money" or damaging the environment or claiming it couldn't possibly be "as good as...." I'd be willing to bet that they have at least one passion or habit that many others would consider frivolous or a waste of money.

I love my Keurig and I have a Newman's Own coffee with hot milk every afternoon. But a proper cup of tea needs a kettle. The Keurig water is nowhere near hot enough for a good cup of tea. An electric kettle boils very fast so have a proper cup of tea, lol!

Love my mini Keurig. I save and skimp on many things so if the coffee (or once in a while tea) K-cups cost a little more it is worth it in convenience. I'm ill right now so especially now the no clean-up is great. I prefer flavored coffee so the K-cups are perfect for that. No wasting coffee and I mostly get the K-cups on sale or at a decent price.

I would say the taste is better with brewed tea over a teabag. I don't use a Keurig but get brewed tea at 7-11 and there is no comparison, brewed has so much more flavor than a tea bag.

Depends on the tea--and tea bags are really "brewed" as well. To me the Keurig tea isn't really brewed because the tea doesn't spend much time in contact with the water. Really good tea in a bag can be better than "dustings" sold in a tea bag. Harney Tea has those little cloth "sachet" bags that are VERY good. You can't taste the bag at all. And it depends on the way any tea is brewed as well as the quality of the tea to begin with.

I am very happy with those Harney sachets because I can get a very good cup without the fuss and mess of leaves at work or when I'm in a hurry.

I like my Keurig. A fresh cup always beats coffee that's been sitting in the pot. And I only make what I'm going to drink, instead of throwing away coffee.

I agree, ennui1.

And I like flavored coffee, sometimes I want my second cup to be a different flavor than the first. Keurig makes that easy for me.

My Keurig also saves me money; I no longer have coffee to throw away. I've never once purchased K-cups so the expense of them is not an issue for me.

I agree, too. There's one of me and most days I drink one cup of coffee at home. I wasted a lot of coffee with a regular drip pot. I also found that the measurements on coffee didn't work for my tastes and always had trouble getting a cup that wasn't WAY too strong or way too weak. Keurig's system means consistency.

Why is it that when some people like something that another person doesn't "get" (Keurig, WEN, whatever) it's suddenly a "cult" of followers? Some people even use that as a selling point and I can't think of anything less attractive. It's too bad people don't seem to understand what that word actually means. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area when people were personally involved in and impacted by the Jim Jones Peoples Temple Cult. I remember the bloated corpses of the dead families being shown on the news every night. I have relatives that live a few doors down from the house where the LaBianca family was murdered by Charles Manson and his followers and my parents used to drive by the LaBianca house frequently before we moved to San Francisco. Keurig users aren't a cult and there's no mystique to a coffee maker.

my s/o prefers loose tea so he uses the my k-cup feature and puts his loose tea in that.
