I ask that question because some years ago (more than 10) I cancelled my ordinary Paypal account because I kept receiving spam mall related to my account. Nothing from Paypal, just phising attempts, but they were unnerving and I didn't need the account.
I didn't even realize Paypal ran another type of account.
i do not get any spam email from paypal at all. not sure if there have ever been any phishing attempts, but i never click on links in an email. i go right to my account.
from paypal site:
"According to its website, PayPal is the more secure way to shop online because the seller never sees your credit card number. When you open your PayPal account, you can link it directly to your bank account or to a debit or credit card. The data is encrypted for extra protection against fraud and identity theft.
For the most part, PayPal is safe when you use it to send money. ... But PayPal is a reputable company with enough security and consumer protection in place to keep you relatively safe online. Data security: PayPal's website is secure and encrypted.
They also have Paypal Purchase Protection. When buyers pay with PayPal on any website, PayPal Purchase Protection covers them in case there is a problem. ... Use PayPal to complete your payment. Let the seller know there's a problem with the transaction by opening a dispute in the Resolution Center within the timeframe noted in the transaction details."

I use Paypal but I also have credit cards. I do not have any store credit cards. I found them to be unreliable and often troublesome. Not enough space here to tell my horror stories. Most of my cards are for a purpose... airline points for example or cards that allow me special rewards.
I never use Paypal unless I am dealing with Ebay. I had a real problem with Paypal and HSN a few years back. One told me to contact the other and it went back and forth. Six months later they figured it out. I kid you not.
And store cards use a bank that is not always friendly or helpful. I dumped my QVC card for that reason. Had an overlap in payment because of a credit and the bank reported me to the credit union in one month and even QVC said they were wrong and had made the adjustment--- all paid up and still reported. QVC later dumped that bank but I just didn't want to get a card back because of the bad situation.

What I like about using PP is that if I have to return something then my shipping cost is refundable through PP. There is a place to request a refund for whatever reason.

@sunshine45TY.
If the phising world has for some reason decided Paypal isn't lucrative for them, that's good to know. Even when you know the phisers are blindly casting a net, it's unnerving when it happens a dozen times within a few months.
Right now I don't have a credit card on file with any company although I do regularly charge most of what I buy. I just haven't been buying much for a while so I pulled my card. But I know one of these days I'll want something I can't buy locally.

Do people still have Carte Blanc and Diner's Club cards?
Those are so old school. I remember my Dad having those growing up.

Here’s an instance where something from HSN is positively influencing QVC. I’ve used PayPal over there for a long time for the few purchases I make.

@SeaMaiden wrote:@viva923 Why don’t you have a backup credit card? Just pay it off each month....I use my visa for every purchase.. including groceries....I pay it off end of month...no interest. I rack up thousands of points that I make money back on .....hundreds of dollars a year.....FREE MONEY just for using the card!
So true. I I put everything on card. I have all my bills set up for "auto pay" - they go on my credit card and I only write one check at the end of the month. Between Ebates, credit card points and Microsoft points ... I calculate I'm making about $1500 per year.

I just went through the same thing with Paypal and Evine. My Evine account was hacked and $200 worth of merchandise was shipped and charged to my Paypal account. All parties were notified of the fraud. Now 2 months later Paypal is sending me to a collection agency for the money that was stolen from me! Ugh! Calls back and forth between Evine and Paypal for days...FINALLY it got taken care of but what a hassle!
