Yes, I am.  But the future I see looks very bright.  We are just coming out of the pandemic, and the plans and strategies that are now in place are designed to propel America and the world to great future.  While we face many challenges ahead, we always rise to meet them.  We must now prepare ourselves for the tasks ahead. US economy shrank 0.6% between April and June - a slightly smaller drop than first estimated - as the country continues to battle high inflation amid fears of a recession.
Still, the revised figures confirmed a second straight quarter of economic contraction, which meets one informal sign of a recession. The economy contracted at a 1.6 percent rate in the first quarter.

Happens to many professionals in their 50s. Happened to me and several people I know. We get decent salaries, excellent benefits and unfortunately we're on the cusp of costing the company health insurance a bunch of money.
They bring in somebody a couple of years out of college for 1/2 the pay and benefits.
It's strategic.
I wish your sil and his family well.
