I had a pre op appt for a procedure I am having done this Wednesday and I started talking about this with the doctor who was doing my consult.
He said there are 8 million procedures like this done every year and about 1/10,000 have a problem or die from it. I have had numerous colonoscopies because of Crohns but have only had them in a hospital because that is where my doctor was. He told me with my history though they would have not chosen to do it in one of these clinics just because of my prior problems. He said he personally would have had this procedure with her done in a hospital just because of her age alone. I don't think there is anything wrong with these clinics at all but for older people and people who have other health problems it sounds like most of the doctors that I deal with would choose to do that in a hospital just in case a problem arose.

Hi NoelSeven,
I have no problem answering any questions regarding any of my mental or physical health issues. With that particular person all my answers do is lead to more questions, and that is what I see as "the game". and I am no longer participating with that particular player.
Anyone that has been around long and has visited the Health and Fitness Forum are quite aware of my willingness to answer any questions asked about my many issues with physical health and mental issues. But there is a certain point with a certain person!

She was having an endoscopy to try to find out why she had increased raspiness in her voice. She stopped breathing during the procedure and went into cardiac arrest. Much has been speculated about why, and lots of "what ifs" and "should haves." The only endoscopy I had done was in an outpatient center at the same time that I had a colonoscopy, and I was given the twilight anesthesia. My personal opinion is that it was simply her time.Haven't read or seen any "actual results" on the reason for her problem during this procedure. My own experiences, and I am 75 years old, and non of my doctors would do any of my many procedures any place but in a hospital.
Don't know what type of meds she was taking, but there are many that people my age are taking that can be responsible for serious situations happening during even very routine procedures.
When I needed an Oral Surgeon, he does/did 95% of his procedures in his office as an outpatient. No way would he do my procedure anyplace but in a hospital.
Seems strange to me she would be having this done at an Endoscopy Center. Don't know that it was an Endoscopy, but the clinics in our city that advertise as such do only Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, not anything else. If other procedures need to be done they do them in a hospital.
Anyone that wants to update me with "the facts" of the autopsy or other pertinent information that is true, I would really appreciate it.
I had an endoscopy to look into my stomach, and it was done in the Doctor's office, the colonoscopy was done in a clinic. I agree that it was her time. I will be interested to learn if anything was found on her vocal cords, but if not, her raspy voice could have been due to her shouting during her on stage performances.

It might not have been an extra beat or a minor arrythmia, it could have been atrial fibrillation, which is most definitely serious. A-Fib is what killed my mother.
If Joan Rivers had atrial fibrillation, no doctor would have let her walk around and have all that plastic surgery. Of course, there are people who don't go to doctors and don't even know they have A-Fib., but someone like JR would, of course, have known if she had it. In that case, she would have had ablation therapy.
Maybe she didn't have arrhythmia during the face lifts, only developed it later on.

I knew a woman who had arrhythmia, and had to have surgery for another condition, not major. As soon as she went under, she arrested, and an ablation was performed right there to save her life.

John: Since I am not one to play games - I assume you are mistaking me for someone else. If not, please direct me to any thread or post where I am playing games.
You say you have no problem answering any questions regarding anything about your health, yet I ask two reasonable questions, which you apparently can't answer, so now you have decided it's a "game?"...... LOL
