I remember years ago when the Arte d'Oro shows were on. Now those were beautiful, once in a lifetime pieces.

I think I stopped around that time or maybe before. They did have some beautiful stuff for a while, but it has gotten so "cheap". O/T Did you enjoy your trip with your sisters? At least I think it was you .... if not, I'm sorry to confuse you. {#emotions_dlg.blush}

Did they stop stating gram weights when they started selling silicone-filled jewelry?

There probably would be no way to provide a gram weight with that stuff because the weight would include the silicone weight which is, no doubt, much heavier than the super-mega-thin bit of gold that surrounds it.

But it seems like they backed off from gram weights even before that, to a degree. I have seen some weights given - like with their dental floss necklace chains. I've gone to look at a gold chain here and there only to see the weight given at like 1.4 grams. YIKES! 1.4 grams for a whole 18" of length? Hate to say it, but - whatever

That would almost be like a strand of hair. {#emotions_dlg.crying}

I do miss Michael O'Connor though. I enjoyed listening to him speak.

Well that's not good .... or maybe it is. Hope you get to enjoy it. Good luck with the weather. Be careful.

I love jewelry and I've been collecting high quality and fashion jewelry for years. I'll wear RJ Graziano bangles one day and real the next. I watch for jewelry styles in the magazines and like to play with the possibilities.

I've liked black jewelry for several years and love the addition of black spinel. I recently ordered the ring that looks like a crown and the bronzo black spinel cross ring.

When I see the prices of the jewelry, it makes me want to go to a jeweler and get all of my jewelry appraised.

Their prices aren't surprising to me. Gold has gone up in value, however it's coming down!!

This is such an interesting subject! My DM never cared much about jewelry and I only know a little about the history of the few good pieces she had, but her sister (my Godmother) was a single lady who LOVED jewelry and bought whatever appealed to her. I inherited several things from her. In the past, I bought a lot of Q jewelry, lots of "comfort" gifts to myself when my mom was ill. Now there are really only two lines sold on the Q, and both of them pretty much hold their own with my local B + M jewelry stores, and also with what I see online. I am usually willing to trust graded items- 14 or 18 karat, graded diamonds, .950 and so on.

I've been trying, with both jewelry and handbags, to skip the 'lessor' items and only cave on the nicer things... I've had mixed results. If I like something then I like it, but will continue trying to limit purchases of items that essentially have limited value, unless the style and quality are there. I will say though, that I almost never succumb to DMQ or other jewelry that offers nothing more than 'faux' or 'simulated' stones and have very limited interest in non-noble metals like bronze and steel.
