In our area it's being suggested that we shovel the snow off the roofs; because rain is expected next, and, in these abnormal temps., the rain will make the snow on the roof even heavier and may cause roofs to collapse. With ice and snow everywhere, who's going to get out a ladder, climb up to the roof and shovel away the snow? {#emotions_dlg.scared}

We have deer tracks on our property in the back. They were probably scavenging for food, poor things. I wouldn't doubt they might have eaten off some of the trees. They can have all they want if it helps them to survive the brutality of this storm. We've been putting out bread and nuts and even cereal for any animal life that may come along, hoping it will help them survive. This is horrible both for human and animal life. I hate it. And to think, not all that long ago I was complaining about the summer heat and humidity. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

This is all part of our changing ecosystem and I think we're going to have to accept it. The winds have changed, the ocean temperature right now is warmer than the air temperature. Scientists all over the world attribute most of it to human causes.

I know . . . blah blah blah. The conversation would only lead to deletion anyway.

The animals who are dying break my heart. Thank you, FF, for doing what you can in your little area of this mess.

When I lived in Sun Valley Idaho, you had to shovel off your roofs all winter long. People actually did it as a job. You either do it or pay to have it done... or suffer the consequences... If you have a lot of build up I would do it or your roof could collapse..... I would do it if I were you.

These are times when it is nice to live in the south. Now during the summer...

When my parents lived in northern Wisconsin they had to shovel the roof often.

They are totally serious. Get yourself a telescoping roof rake. You might want to check with your homeowners insurance company...sometimes they offer them at a discount. Very important to keep your roof safe- not only because of collapse, but also because of ice dams which will seep through and ruin ceilings and walls.

My husband has a tool he calls a "snow broom" to clear our roof of heavy snow. It looks like a big push broom. Here in Wisconsin, clearing one's roof is a common chore with our snowy winters.

They have snow rakes that you can use to get the snow off. If you live in a two story I don't know how you would do it. But I do remember many years ago when we had big snow like this that roofs collapsed. And if they don't it can do a lot of damage just the same.

It's such a helpless feeling to know there's human and animal life being taken, Ford, and not being able to do much about it. {#emotions_dlg.sad}
