I get your concern for the deer, but in many areas they are a real threat - with Lyme disease (I know so many people who have it and it is not easy to live with or to effectively treat), to traffic, and to the eco system.
As to the latter, DC officials are having an open season on shooting deer (only hired folks will shoot them) in Rock Creek Park because they are destroying the park by eating all the new growth.
I know its sad. I like deer - to a point. But I have seen 20 at one time in my yard (we back up to a common area) and they have destroyed my azaleas, hostas, other plants and several trees (they rub their antlers against them and tear off the bark exposing the tree to insects and disease. And I am continually worried that I'll get a tick and end up with Lyme disease.
It is really dangerous on our unlit curvy roads at night (or sometimes even on main roads during the day) as you never know when a deer will jump out in front of your car.
It's sad, but I think they have become a real menace. Not saying it's their fault, but still.

You either do it or pay to have it done... or suffer the consequences... If you have a lot of build up I would do it or your roof could collapse..... I would do it if I were you.
I don't know and have never heard of a service that removes snow from roofs in this area, as there's never been a need for it. I have a friend who has a landscaping business, but there's no way he'll do a job like this. Right now there's a little sunshine, even with the frigid temps. We're hoping it might melt some of the snow.

Right about now I agree with you.

I love animals too and worry about them in this cold, but it is all part of nature's plan. There have been brutally cold winters for thousands of years and animals have adapted to deal with it. It's nature's way that some will not make it through, as hard as it is for us to accept.

Very important to keep your roof safe- not only because of collapse, but also because of ice dams which will seep through and ruin ceilings and walls.
That pic looks like a ranch-style home, bathina. That tool would never reach our roof.

No one's even outdoors. No one wants to be outdoors. There are no teens directly around me, and I'd feel horrible if I found a teen to do it and he fell off the roof. None of the neighbors that I can see are taking action at this point.

Yes they are serious. Depending how much snow you have on your roof a roof rake may help to remove some of it. You also have to worry about ice dams that can do a lot of damage.
About 5 years ago, we had a tremendous snow storm, close to two feet accumulation. Luckily our roof held up, but I was beyond nervous. We also have an elevated deck and I don't let the snow build up. I noticed last year that the wooden deck supports were deteriorating. We had them replaced and were surprised to see the amount of rot on the portion which was underground.
And I can't talk about the wildlife, it just breaks my heart.

Call a roofing company. Also be on the lookout for ice dams. Ice forms on edge of roofs, works under the shingles and can run down inside of walls causing wet carpets. Usually not from just one storm.

I will tell my dh about the tools you've suggested. If he feels they would work with the height of our home and being able to remove a good portion of the snow, I'm sure he'll look into it. I'll also tell him about your suggestions of roofers. Thank all of you so much.
