It's tragic, yet interesting, how it's usually the male gender that's attracted to it, though.

I almost always think of the psychological aspect of things, especially as most people aren't born "bad.".

I think the word is not CHANCE but CHOICE. Each and every person who has been involved, as an adult, in child exploitation didn't do it but chance, but by choice. They may have been exploited as a child themselves, but as an adult they have the ability to make a CHOICE not to exploit another child. So many do not use their God-given ability to choose rightly.

But to me it's always been chance, since children don't ask to be born in the first place.

And especially since they can't choose who will raise them.

A child's overall personality is formed by the time they're in first grade, according to psychologists.

If there was great harm done during the ages of 1 through 6, most won't be able to make healthy choices as adults.

Even if God blessedly gave them "their own".

It's really sad.  I wonder if he was abused as a child and if that was one of the reasons he was overweight.

That's a spot-on observation, and applicable to people of every gender. 

Abuse of any kind - physical, emotional, and/or sehxual - often results in weight issues, among many other unhealthy things.

Our spirits are very fragile.

And sehxual abuse usually causes the need to protect oneself, to appear less attractive to others.

Even though children don't understand or realize how life-changing that harm is.

One's past can be the reason for many negative personality traits, including most addictions, obsessions, and compulsions.

All of those behaviors are just instinctive coping mechanisms for anxiety and depression, and most people are unaware when doing them.

lovescats, I often feel the same sympathy, and usually, empathy.

Maybe it's a Pisces and HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) thing, but I know how easily I could have been the one victimized.

Oh, my sista fishy sign (:smileyhappy):, we are born innately having extra compassion, kindness, sensitivity, intuition, and imagination.

Between that and life experiences, we can be very emotional beings.  ;-)

But like with every sign, we do have cr*ppy traits as well, LOL.

So it's no surprise that you (& I) react to criminality the way we do, even as we feel the normal contempt and disgust.

It's true that weight gain is a common response to sexual assault, but I see no excuse for child sexual abuse.  He's not going to get any sympathy from me.  Abuse like that is an abuse of power.  He showed off his collection to other people and thank goodness it was his downfall.
