Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

@Jo1313 Welcome

Perhaps your children will one day regret tossing them.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

Hallmark Keepsake ornaments since 1984. Fond memories of my children picking a few out every holiday. My daughter loves them and even at 45 still carries the tradition with my grandson.

I donated Hummels, LLadro, Fenton glassware and most of our Lenox and Waterford about 8 or 9 years ago. I got caught up in the anti-clutter movement. At times I miss some of it.

Back in the 70's I started a collection of Tiffany jewelry. That I add to yearly and thankfully my daughter loves all of it. I already have given her a vintage diamond and emerald ring when she passed the Bar and various other pieces through the years. She gifts me new pieces for my birthday and Christmas. That and my Hallmark ornaments are the only things I continue to collect @occasionalrain .

Not really, things just seem to pile up!

For me too, like NASCAR stock cars with 5 laps to go.  Time to tow out some of this debris.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

I collect jewelry containing high quality turquoise stones.  It is almost all older Indian-made jewelry with a few contemporary pieces thrown in.  I've not bought anything for a long time as I have no one who is interested in inheriting my collection and no one knowledgeable enough to sell it.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

That would be a big fat NO.  My sister always collected one thing or another. Loved yard sales. My feeling then, and now, is I have enough c*rap of own own let alone bringing other folks stuff here.

Years ago Sis decided I needed to collect something and started buying me salt n pepper shakers.  Ugh.  I said I didn't want to but she keptgiving them to me. I finally put my foot down and chucked them.  When I say no, I mean no.

How many of an item makes you a callector?

I seem to be collecting vintage quilts, they weren't something I set out to collect, just happened.

And I have several dept 56 Christmas things

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

I don't collect anything anymore. Over the years I donated what I did have.  However, my brother and sister-in-law have, and still buy, tons of porcelin dishware.  The house is overrun, and they are nearing 80.  I think that being in their home with just a few places to sit, cured me of my desire to collect.

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

Thankfully, no, not anymore.  And even back in the day I didn't have big collections of anything.

I did have some Hummels way back when QVC sold them and they were a big collectible.  All these years later, I'm down to 3, my original 3, the ones I liked best from the start.  I don't care that they're not worth anything, but I really love the 3 I have.

I went through a Byers Choice phase years and years ago, bought a bunch and then gave them away.

I'm not a minimalist at all, but as I get older I'm certainly leaning in that direction.  I think if anyone came in and looked through the kitchen and dining room and linen closets specifically, they'd think I'd already attained minimalist status.

I want the things I love and I keep those items, but I'm not interested in a lot of clutter.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

Me too @Kachina624 and I also have no one to give them to. At least not a female. I have some big honkers that I love and wear around the house during quarantine. Still buy a piece here and there. I always bought some fabulous pieces traveling through the Southwest. The roadside sellers on the highways have some amazing finds. My all time cherished piece is a Kachina (lol) Doll ring. It's three inches long. I wear it on my middle finger. Smiley Happy
