Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

I used to collect Harmony Kingdom but haven't since 2001. The only thing I currently collect is S.W./N.A. jewelry ( even when I can't wear it, I can still handle it and remember).  Eventually much of it will go to my D.I.L., who is Navajo and living in Albuquerque.  Will probably start selling my extensive 14k-22k gold jewelry next year; !mainly acquired in Asia ( the cash in the bank will go to my son for his kids college ).

Small beaded gemstone necklaces.  Mostly inexpensive.  HSN had some good deals a few years ago.

Gave up collecting anything after Beanie Babies. But, I'm waiting for a comeback, so I've kept them Woman Wink.

When my kids were small I collected Beanie Babies along with all the other mothers waiting in line at McDonald's for the latest

or stores. I was sure they would fund my kids college tuition lol! No, because everyone else was collecting them too.😄

I did have so much fun collecting all the children's classics and modern award winning books(the schools had wonderful book fairs) and movies ("tapes for vcr" back then),

toys that we all used to have yet new in stores on main street that sold them. I wanted them to know and have all the best experiences they could have from many generations. How can you grow up without old Disney or Goodnight Moon and so many.

Fun Christmas things-snowbabies and those little mice. Elmo, to Raggedy Ann. I loved fairy ornaments and decor too.

I think I went bananas even though we actually didn't have a lot of money back then.

But when they grew up, some  wanted some stuff and others didnt at all. The world is so different now with so many things available electronically. Moving from one place to another is a good time to get rid of things that may have become a burden to keep.

And it is so true that once people know you like something, you start to be overflowing with gifts in that category, ones you may never have picked, because usually those of us who do collect something, know what we like and are very selective.

I now seem to have more pictures of grandkids than anything. I love them all and they make me happy even though its starting to look like a photo studio! I have a hard time taking any down!

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

I had a large collection of books but space became more important and I let a lot of them go.  I miss seeing them but love the space.  I chuckle at seeing homes of people online interviewed in front of their many books, happy I'm not back with all of that.  I kept the oldest and ones I hadn't read.

I over-bought Polish Stoneware.  Use it every day but a lot of it needs to be sold or gifted.  Multiples of bakers might be considered a collection.

I have a small collection of Willaraye Studio pieces, a few large and a few small.

Bills

And I keep mail from companies asking for donations. I hold onto them maybe for 3 months, no more than that  just to count the number of times they have mailed me. I find it all very annoying but it gives me an idea how much money they spend on a no answer.

Not really, things just seem to pile up!

For me too, like NASCAR stock cars with 5 laps to go.  Time to tow out some of this debris.

Today's road course just might get interesting. Ole Chase has got to be the favorite. In road courses anything is possible. I will stick with my 2 guys: "#2/#22 and #12".

Re: Is There Anything You Collect?

I am a huge I Love Lucy fan.   Mattel came out with a line of Lucy Barbie Dolls that depicted Lucy from iconic episodes.  For example, there was a Grape Stomping Barbie, Vitameatavegamin Barbie, Lucy as Santa Barbie, Lucy is Enceinte Barbie, etc.  I collected all of them and kept most in their original boxes.  As time went on I got married, had a family, and put the dolls away in storage at my mom's.  My girls (ages 6 and 9) are now I Love Lucy fans as well.  While visiting my mother, we went into storage and the girls came across the boxes.  They just loved them!  I had duplicates of a few, so I allowed my little one to open the boxes and take them home.

I don't collect them anymore, but after all of these years, I'm so glad I bought them.  Even if we never open those boxes, it made me happy to see those dolls again and even happier to know that I passed my love of Lucy onto my daughters.

I’ve never been into collecting things.  I’ve always been a minimalist at heart.  My husband collected plates from the Bradford Exchange before we got married.  I never saw the point. They were in boxes in the closet collecting dust.  Years later we ended up donating them to Salvation Army.

Yes, in the last couple of years I have begun collecting perfumes.  Mostly ones I wore in my teens, 20s and 30s.  I have so many happy memories connected to fragrance, when I smell them again I am transported, I smile, and feel comforted.

Most are currently available.  Some simply are not made anymore.
