Re: Is QVC Dropping It's Gold and Gemstone Offerings?

@fortune  Join the club. Nothing great to watch, but do remember seeing a colors of gems show within this month's program list, but not promising anything new. IMO, we keep seeing the same "stuff" because they can't sell it...even during jewelry clearance shows. Gold is expensive to buy and then mark up to pass on to the customer (us) hoping we will take the bait. That's a lot of money for them to lay out up front with their inventory in stock still sitting & not moving.

Re: Is QVC Dropping It's Gold and Gemstone Offerings?

All three of my daughters (36, 41, 43) all shop on line (not QVC or HSN but other more modern stores.  They seldom go into a 'brick and mortar' store.  Same thing with other  people that age I've spoken to.

My friend (she's around  62) doesn't like to shop on line at all.  So her family (about my daughter's ages and younger) sit and make up their Christmas list from Amazon, Ebay, etc and my friend goes crazy going to brick and mortar stores trying to find the same thing they picked out on line!  Very seldom does she find the same thing!

My grandchildren are the only one's in my family who make up lists and they make it so easy to just click on the address they send me, I click buy and that's it.  Very easy and I love it!

When my back didn't hurt and my knees were good I used to love going to the stores to shop.  I think of it as part of the Christmas experience.

I think as the Boomer population gets older home shopping clubs will fade away.  Just my idea.  I'm usually wrong anyway.  Ask my friends over on the soaps section...they'll tell you...

I soooo agree with you!  I took a broken earring to a local jeweler, and he told me he couldn't fix it because it was hollow, very thin, and not real silver. I paid quite a bit for the earrings, matching necklace and bracelet.  Feel like I've been ripped off. I'm finding JTV.com (Jewelry TV) a good place to find nice jewelry with reasonable prices.

When they started selling hollow, wax filled jewelry at premium prices seemed to be the beginning of the end.

@Melania

It got me when they started showing silicon- and resin-filled 14k jewelry.  I'd never buy it knowingly!!!

Re: Is QVC Dropping It's Gold and Gemstone Offerings?

I think they have gotten lazy.  No buyers out looking for new stuff, no NEW coming in.  Not just jewelry, but other items as well.  Focus has shifted and not in a good way.  They are killing the very thing that made them.

Remember when they actually went out and found new and fun things to bring to us?  No?  Because they haven't done that in years.

It's as if they have given up instead of getting out there and fighting for what they started.  Well, I've given up too.  There is so much out there waiting to be "discovered" but the Q won't go look for it any more.  Just show me the money seems to be their theme now.

Yes, jewelry can be expensive, but so are the electronics, beds, lotions and potions, Dysons, etc that are presented over and over and over.  I would have liked to have seen some nice jewelry shows shown well before Christmas.  FOr some of us, jewelry is a nice gift to give/receive for holidays, birthdays or special occasions.  Jewelry lasts forever, unlike those other items.  It doesn't have to be the high priced once in a lifetime pieces.  They could show some resonably priced jewelry items more often.  Even once a month have a birthsstone show for example.

qvc could do that.  They don't offer gem stones with diamonds.  That would cut the cost of the gemstone (even with 10K)  JTV does that all the time.  Gemstones set in 10K along with the silver.  I only mentioned 10K because I think a lot of people are about sick of silver right now.   Doesn't have to be sapphires/rubies/emeralds.  A Blue topaz would be nice.  They are 3rd on the hardness scale behind diamonds & sapphires.  It's semiprecious, so it should not be expensive.

Re: Is QVC Dropping It's Gold and Gemstone Offerings?

The whole jewelry section is a shell of it's former self. Lighting  the weight of the settings, lowering the quality of the gems, hollow wire chains and bracelets, resin filling  and PVC filled omega's.   When they didn't choose to mark them to tell the consumer now and in the future they were filled with something besides gold, they lost me.

Gold is just too expensive. Platinum is cheaper than gold right now. I wonder why we're not seeing more gemstones set in platinum? I would prefer it over gold.

Hi @SilleeMee Smiley Happy

Gold doesn't seem to be too expensive for other channels.  The markup that they want is ridiculous.  I've gotten some really nice pieces from other channels, 10k - 18k and nice weight too.

@songbird  Have you tried Fine Silver. Difficult to find but also non-reactive. If you like silver, but don't like the polishing, SUNSHINE CLOTHS...available from jewelry suppliers... treated w/ chemical agents to safely clean ALL jewelry.
