I'm seeing fewer and fewer gold and gemstone offerings from QVC.  Hardly any "new" items are being featured.  I sure hope that they aren't dropping their beautiful fine jewelry offerings!!!  I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons to watch the Q these days. . .

I agree.  They show the same old stuff over and over again.  Nothing new...  Gold jewelery show before Christmas, but only a few and seemingly nothing new...

I am hoping 2017 will bring a renewed emphasis to jewelry on qvc...not sure what happened over the years but when a home shopping channel offers next to nothing prior to Christmas you have to wonder why they give up those sales.  Did we not buy enough?

Gold is just too expensive. Platinum is cheaper than gold right now. I wonder why we're not seeing more gemstones set in platinum? I would prefer it over gold.

Well obviously the cost of gold.  To make matters worse, gold now costs more the platinum.  A far more rare precious metal.  So that's why you don't see a lot of all gold jewelry.  Gem stones can make the jewelry cheaper, (you use less gold) but QVC and others like JTV, etc. never offered gold, gem stones and diamonds together. JTV offers 10K which is unacceptable to viewers that want gold.  What makes the cost (and value) of a gem stone is the color and the amount of diamonds surrounding it.  So no more fine jewelry.  On the other hand, this has given rise to the glut of all fine jewelry 24-hours-a day TV networks that costs thousands.  They're the ones driving jewelry stores out of business.  I doubt very much QVC will ever go back to selling gold like they once did.  If gold has the nerve to cost more then platinum, it will never go down in price again.

When they scaled their jewelry operation back several years ago and then offered that steady diet of bronzo... plated... filled... and 'gemstone flavor or the year' (druzy... black spinel.... sleeping beauty...) I think it really took them out of the jewelry business. Now that they seem to want to compete again, it just doesn't seem like they know how to... and, on top of that, nobody seems really interested. I guess most of us jewelry fans more or less moved onto other resources... But yes, their offerings seem more and more limited and, like everything else on Q, repetitive.

 Platinum is not quite as malleable as gold is.  In the past high end platinum settings were just in rings & earrings.  Necklaces & bracelets were too costly.  Now things have changed.  Platinum bracelets & necklaces are being offered.  I see them on Gem Shopping all the time.  Unfortunately because of the weaker malleabilty of platinum, you will not see as much of ornate carving as you see with gold. So 18K still rules fine jewelry. Still a gorgeous metal (I love platinum) Never tarnishes and never looses that wonderful gleam. Like gold, platiunum never reacts to anything.  It stays like that forever. Something poor silver can not do.  I think of all the jewelry I own from Gem Shopping, TVON, American Jewelry, etc, the majority are set in platinum now.

Yes, jewelry can be expensive, but so are the electronics, beds, lotions and potions, Dysons, etc that are presented over and over and over.  I would have liked to have seen some nice jewelry shows shown well before Christmas.  FOr some of us, jewelry is a nice gift to give/receive for holidays, birthdays or special occasions.  Jewelry lasts forever, unlike those other items.  It doesn't have to be the high priced once in a lifetime pieces.  They could show some resonably priced jewelry items more often.  Even once a month have a birthsstone show for example.

When they started selling hollow, wax filled jewelry at premium prices seemed to be the beginning of the end.

I am pretty much tired of the "shopping channels" for the past year.  Low quality, high prices, still charging for shipping, boring products,....loud, overpaid, overbearing hosts.....

I see the future in shopping channels bleak if they don't do something to better themselves quickly.
