@Shanus true. I lived next to a neighbor who kept her dog outside all day when they were at work. I worked off hours and also worked from home so was home all day. That dog was nonstop. I felt badly for the dog because all it wanted was to not be left alone outside. It wasn't the dog's fault. It drove me nuts though. I couldn't concentrate on some of the things I needed to get done. My solution? I moved out to the middle of nowhere. Problem solved. Smiley Wink

Re: Incessive Dog Barking....

I am a great  lover of animals, but they should not become a problem for others.I feel the fault lies with the owners, dogs  learn much like children.Dogs need socialization  with lots of different  situations when very young, then they  arent  so excitable at common things.I have used this method with all my dogs. They never have  issues with excitement  barking or  even barking at anything as   a matter of  fact, if someone rings  rhe doorbell he will sit in front of the door tail waging , no barking ,no lunging to go out  the minute the door opens. To those who say dogs just bark , i wonder how you would feel if your neighbor  had a very loud  child  screaming in the back or near your property or window for hours?Animal lovers must understand not everyone shares  your affinity. Some will go to terrible measures to solve the problem, There has been reported around our town of people poisoning others pets who they deemed   a  problem. If you love your dog ,it falls to you to make sure they are walked or played  with.Bored dogs like to bark.If you work long hours a dog is not for you, they need attention  lots of it.To OP, there are quality of life issues that towns take very seriously,  They should send ,if you complain, someone out ro discuss the problem with the offender. You should not  ever expect  someone  to move if they dont like the noise.Everyone hass a right to enjoy their property  no exceptions..Maryanne

Re: Incessive Dog Barking....

[ Edited ]

Chickenbutt summed it up beautifully: YOUR dog should not be the problem of everyone else. YOUR actions of not stopping the noise (barking) is a nuisance for others; if they're calling the police or animal control, it IS a nuisance and YOU must doing something about it else, the dog will be removed (based on what I've been told by many who have dealt with this issue).

I mentioned the yappy yorkies in my post; yesterday, those 2 dogs barked for 3 hours nonstop. Either one was barking or they both were barking. I saw a cop out there yesterday after commenting to a neighbor about it while on our decks (townhouses). She said she called the police and they would send someone. They did.

No barking today. Why? The yappy yorkies are INSIDE and not on the deck. If on Monday and they're back out, I'm calling the police as well (non-911 number). M-F they send out Animal Control; on the weekends, the police come out.

I love dogs; have had them all my life except for now. Why? I don't want the responsibility of one at the moment. I don't want to deal with poop, the smell, walking or the barking that comes with it. If I can hear your dog more than the "let me in please" bark or have to pick up your dogs' ******, then YOUR actions with YOUR dog have crossed over to being a nuisance for ME and OTHERS. Owners get what they deserve if they don't deal with issues such as these.

I actually love that sound, along with the owls and elk calls. Much more melodic than a constantly yapping dog.

Re: Incessive Dog Barking....

Not all owners get what they deserve. I am home pretty much 24/7. "Julio" my Doxie, has play time with other dogs, walks and has a big back yard we play ball in daily. If the weather is bad we play inside. "Julio" does not bark unless there is a reason. Dogs have great instincts. For example,  "Julio" (2 yrs old)  wakes me up every morning to take my seizure pills if I over sleep. I never trained him to do that.  I have learned that some people truly believe it is THEIR WORLD and we all just live in it.

@peggyhbsl  Sounds like you have a very speical companion. : )

It also sounds as though Julio and you are not what many (including myself) are having issues with; not in the least.

Yes, incessant.  I can't even think straight!  Thanks, everyone, for all the helpful advice.

Re: Incessive Dog Barking....

I just figured OP was combining the words incessant and excessive, since the barking was BOTH.

Re: Incessive Dog Barking....

@nana59 ~ Well, I just blew my top!  I immediately thought of this post and had to come back and post another comment.  I mentioned earlier that we are fortunate to have a good relationship withour neighbors.  Now I question that.  I mean, how good can it be when we have now had to go over there three times in the past 10 days to ask them to bring their dogs in.  I'm dealing with a lot right now.  I'm tired, stressed and overall not doing well.  Today alone the barking occurred at 11 AM, noon, 1:00, 3:00, 4:00 & 5:00.  I was out this morning running errands so I'm sure I missed the morning count.  I opened my kitchen window and saw the wife out on her front porch yacking it up with some other lady, all the while letting both dogs bark, bark and bark.  I sent my husband over there because if I went it wasn't going to be pretty.  They brought them in but seriously, this is it.  Starting tomorrow I'm going to take the good advice of so many here and start calling the cops.  I didn't mention their cat that they let out every single day to roam that likes to hang out on our roof.  I caught it there three times in a week.  It jumped off the roof onto my arbor and broke it (I saw all this with my own eyes).  I got on a ladder and found several piles of cat poop where the cat likes to hang out.  I mentioned this to her more than once but lo and behold, it was over here again today.  This is my home ~ I shouldn't dread being here.  Lately, this is the last place I want to be.  Thanks for letting me vent....

Julie92--sorry for what you're going through--our stupid neighbors must be related.  the last time we had words with the jerk next door, it was because he was building a tree house that was on our property line.  he said he always tries his best to be a good neighbor, and that we were being unreasonable!  we've lived in our house since 1976 and have had many neighbors without any problems.  i've started documenting the dog barking and will call the cops shortly.  oh-how could i forget-i've started hearing chickens in my backyard-yup, now he has freakin' chickens.  i know you need a permit for that-so another reason to call the cops. time for me to put an Armenian curse on him......
