@Venezia, I just wanted to make sure she understood not to do that. No offense was meant towards anyone.

I would be aware of a scam. There should/would have been a letter or something to explain why and what the check was for. I wouldn't cash it. Too many scams to get your bank info.
Even if you call the Co. they might be able to get info from just your phone no. I wouldn't trust anyone. If these evil people would use their brains for something good, wouldn't that be wonderful??

By cashing it the scammer gets ahold of your bank account number.

There is an article in Super Market News that 2.2. million customers were part of a data breach in November of 2024. Below a couple of paragraphs from the article written on July 1, 2025.
It’s been nearly eight months since Ahold Delhaize USA was hit with a cyber attack that disabled its operation—now, new information from the grocery retailer shows that 2.24 million people were affected by the security breach.
Quincy, Mass.-based Ahold Delhaize USA, which owns Stop & Shop, Giant Food, The Giant Company, Food Lion, Hannaford, ADUSA Distribution, and ADUSA Transportation, disclosed in a letter to Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey that 95,463 Mainers were affected. It is unclear from the letter, though, whether the breach impacted customers, employees, or both.
The grocery retailer also sent letters to affected parties in Maine on June 26 that revealed that “an unidentified third party obtained certain files from one of our internal U.S. file repositories …” adding that “we recently learned that some of these files may have included internal employment records containing personal information about you that we obtained in the course of providing services for certain current and former Ahold Delhaize USA companies.”
Ahold said the compromised data could include: names; email addresses; Social Security numbers; passport, and driver's license numbers; financial account information such as bank account numbers; health information; and employment-related information.

Interesting.. Several years ago I received a check from my insurance company for a class action lawsuit settlement for less than $20. A letter was sent along as it as think it was for overcharging customers?
Couldn't it be cashed without going through your bank account? I've cashed small rebate checks for cash and change.
I have received other checks for charity fund raising. If a charity requesting funds why sending ME a $2.00 check? Tossed. Some will send change which is also odd or a $2.00 bill. I guess money gets more attention?

I too get some of those charities sending a half dollar coin or a $2.00 bill and in the return envelope for your donation I just put back in their money. I have my usual monthly charities but I understand once you give to a few more will surely follow.
