@Tinkrbl44 I get that turkey bacon at Whole Foods. Many places carry it, you can look online. But we live in area that has few stores. We have to go to big city, we happen to find it t Whole Foods

Canadian Bacon is a lean, smoked, and fully cooked pork loin cut, often sold in round slices and used in breakfast dishes and recipes, unlike American bacon which comes from the pork belly. I like Canadian bacon.

My trick ( especially since Im single) is to buy Real Bacon Crumbles. NOT artificial bacon bits but there are a couple of brands that label it Real Bacon Crumbles.
Ive gone ahead and looked up nutritional info for regular sliced bacon versus real bacon crumbles.
Serving size for bacon is 1 slice ( I don't think Ive EVER just made or just have eaten 1 slice. More like 2 or 3).
Serving size for most Real Bacon crumbles is 1 tablespoon. Hard to use more than that on a sandwich etc. I tend to mix into the mayo or eggs when I'd be normally be laying a few slices down. When its crumbles its hard to scoop freely on a sandwich but trust me when alone, I have lol. But I do mix in mostly. I love it in scrambled eggs too.
Calories for a slice of bacon 90. Calories for 1 tblspn Real Bacon crumbles 25-30.
Fat for slice 6-7 grams. For Real Bacon crumbles 2.5-3 grams.
Sodium per 1 slice 350 mg. Sodium per real bacon crumbles tblsp. 140 - 220 mg. (That surprised me). Thats a big difference for me especially since its much harder to overindulge in crumbles whereas I can grab a couple of slices and just eat them willynilly.
Do I want a regular slice sometimes? Just for crispy snap maybe. But I'd eat in a restaurant, once or twice a year at most. As a single person, I just stopped cooking it for myself as I kept in the freezer and would not think ahead to defrost and again, I wouldn't just do all that fuss to make 1 slice, hence overindulging.
I buy the crumbles and keep in my fridge. I get the extra value pouch in Sams Club brand Members Mark, lasts months. Love em in salads and chicken dishes too.
Regular grocery has smaller pouches by Hormel and Oscar Meyer if you watch to try it in a smaller quantity. Walmart sells it too.
These are found in the store over where you find croutons and salad dressings. .
I want to thank you for posting the subject as it made me curious. I had never compared the nutritional info as I was buying for convenience. Im quite happy with what I found out about the crumbles.

turkey bacon is like chewing cardboard.
it is so bad. chicken or turkey sausages are better than the bacon if you absolutely refuse to eat bacon.
my mom will be 86 this year and has multiple health issues, but is underweight. it is difficult for her to gain weight, which the doctors want her to do. she pretty much eats 3 slices of thick sliced pork bacon every single day for breakfast, along with scrambled eggs with cream and cheese, a small croissant with butter, fruit, and a oui yogurt. breakfast is her best meal of the day. the rest of the day goes downhill from there. even with her health issues, the doctors are encouraging her to eat anything, especially high protein foods.

@cody2 My philosophy with regard to food I love but won't eat...nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.
On the other hand, I wouldn't feel too guilty about indulging on a rare occasion.

I understand that cardiologists are saying no bacon and low sodium.
The J & D bacon salt is low in sodium. Trust me I do not work for them I just know what members of my family have used. My father had to watch his sodium and he used something called No Salt. It was mainly potassium.
I go to a cardiologists too. I must be one of the rare ones though that can take or leave bacon. I can take or leave ice cream also. I do have my downfalls when it comes to food.
I try and watch what I eat and counter it with exercise, etc.
But a treat once in a while might be an OK thing.

I could give up bacon; it's not something I love. We tried turkey bacon once, and it was horrible IMO. We tried one of those Morning Star fake meats and hated that too. My husband likes red meats more than I do, but we eat more chicken than anything.

I love bacon too & eat it everyday in a breakfast bowl. I've never tried a substitute but I hope you find one to enjoy @cody2

OP It sounds like you have a lot going on with your health. Your "mean" doctor is telling you these food restrictions for a reason. Probably to keep you alive? Right? Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Turn your life around. Start eating healthy and get some exercise. You will feel so much better inside and out.
