Mainly I just worry about the animals who are frightened by loud noises. My two kitties are new, only a year old and with me since February. I am not sure how they will react. I may just put them in the basement where the noise won't be as loud as upstairs. I don't want them trembling.

when we first moved out of the city we used to be able to sit on our patio and watch the fireworks show at the park that was behind our home. it's close but not ""in our backyard"" close IYKWIM. over the years the trees have grown so much that we can hear the fireworks but no longer see them so you have all this booming noise without the pretty to go with it.
fireworks are not allowed here but of course some people still buy them because we hear them close by. but it is never enough to bother us.

It's amazing to me what amuses so many people. If only they could make fireworks without the loud noise it would be very pretty to watch.

Someone was shooting theirs off last night. What a pain. I have enough trouble sleeping.

I live in California where they sell the "Safe & Sane" fireworks, the kind that doesn't shoot up in to the air. Yes, we are in a severe drought, and even if the "Safe & Sane" sales were to be stopped because of the drought, you would still have the people setting off the illegal fireworks.
And either kind, the "Safe & Sane", or the illegal fireworks can start fires.
People set off M-80's and the like, and I'm not too fond of those.
Yes, people will loose fingers and whatnot, because of it. I can't feel sorry for them if they do.
I feel for the firefighters who will be on high alert because of all of the fireworks, both legal "Safe & Sane" ones, and the illegal ones.
All it takes is one spark, a gust of wind, for a huge out of control wildfire to start, and people end up loosing their homes.
People who had nothing to do with the fireworks in the first place.

my pets hate fireworks.

I live so far out of town, I barely hear them. I can see some that they shoot off at the casino several miles away, but barely hear them. My pets aren't afraid.

Hate them also. We had a dog that was so fearful that even with tranquilizers he was out of control. A former coworker had a dog who had a heart attack because of them. It might be different if those that set off illegal ones lived isolated (then there is always forest fires) but when set off in residential neighborhoods there is a chance that one could land on someone's roof and start a fire and it has happened. There is no point to them whatsoever.
Even the legal displays seem such a waste of money that could be used for better things. I get that some like them but the cost is ridiculous with so many cities and municipalities struggling budgetwise. The business' that help sponsor them would be better off donating the money to charities or their local fire departments.

They made my city one of the ones that fireworks are not illegal, but can only be used in the town where they are brought, like that is going to happen. The poor cat gets so scared and I have an idiot neighbor. I also take care of a feral cat a couple miles from my house and have no way to protect him, but he,s a little survivor. Just another excuse for the idiots to cause havoc. It,s not a family thing.

I don't like fireworks, either...too loud and too scary...I stay indoors..just to be safe...
You know what's so crazy? Some of the border states state police confiscate the fireworks once they get over the state line. I've often wondered how this places stay in business.
