Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

We ain't too crazy about it either, but it has more to do with our animals that is does my wife or I. Got a neighbor that lives just close enough to be able to hear all the "loud bangs" and our some of our felines are scared to death of those noises. The others act like nothing is happening.

Had to stop typing here for a few minutes because we once again are getting hit by a hail storm. Heck, I ain't got the first claim settled yet with the insurance company and now maybe we will end up with even more damage.

Didn't sound like tennis ball size hail this time. More like golf ball size but it is dark and not all that easy to see. Since our patio room roof in an aluminum base covered by some type of roofing, it sounds like being in a big barrel with an lid on it when the hail really comes down. Our guys on that side of the house usually head for the basement.

Will be glad when this is over but it seems to go on for weeks after July 4th around here.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

Our city has just finished fireworks festival tonight called Rhythm and Booms. Fireworks set off in tune with music played on a radio station. It's a big draw here getting upwards of 300,000 people. Then we have the real 4th of July fireworks Friday. Of course there are the amateurs lighting off fireworks all around us. I really object to their aerial rockets etc that seem to land in our yard. The noise in itself is irritating but their projectiles land in our yard and if kids or dogs step on them they could cut their feet or paws. Unfortunately nothing changes. Just have to endure another year.

They've been shooting stuff off around her for 2 weeks already. A couple weekends ago, all I heard all day was very loud booms then police sirens!

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

I'm in NY and we vacation in Pennsylvania monthly. They do sell firecrackers there and we can legally buy them there BUT we can't cross the state line with them. We can shoot them in PA but not home. There's a major fine for crossing a bridge with them in your car. I saw this on the news yesterday. They were interviewing these morons in the firecracker store, and they said, "Oh yeah we buy them here in PA and bring them home to New Jersey and shoot them off." The reporter asked them if they're afraid of being caught, and Mr. Brilliant said, "No, we haven't gotten caught yet." Duh you were just on TELEVISION!

I hate firecrackers and the rest of those explosives for all the reasons above.

I hope that anyone with illegal fireworks in our area is caught and fined to the max. We are in the worst drought in decades and one idiot can burn down a whole neighborhood or destroy a neighbors animal herd with one idiotic blast.

I love a good fireworks show as well as the next guy. Sanctioned and safe. But endangering others lives and livelihoods don't cut it with me.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

Add me to the list of people who hate the firecrackers. I'm in Ohio and you can buy fireworks here, there's a couple of really big fireworks store very close to me, but you have to sign a paper declaring that you are taking them out of state. Crazy.

At least this year, it's not dry, so not as big a fear of fire. My jack russel mix is terrified of fireworks too.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

I live in the tinder dry foothills of Southern California- though our city does not allow fireworks, and many do not, some actually DO!

Hard to believe....I mean, when the mountains go up, they know no city boundaries....
