The house that burned was not my dad's.
He did have his childhood home burn, but that was way back in the 1930's and in Kansas City, Mo.
The house that burned that I posted pictures of is just a house that was next to where I am currently living today.
Up until last October, my dad and I lived in the same apartment complex, Sunny Meadows (not the real name)
I lived at 1234 Apartment A in the Sunny Meadows Apartment complex, and he lived at 1237 Apartment B in the Sunny Meadows Apartment complex.

@Anonymous032819 So sorry you had such a mess to clean. In reality, your landlord should be responsible for upkeep of the entire property. But you are living there and it's YOUR safety. I'm proud of you for doing the dirty work today.
Sounds like cleaning up along that fence will do a lot to discourage loitering and vagrancy in the future. Since you haven't had any problems so far, I'd continue to keep it clean and watch the alley. If anything looks suspecious, contact the Police.
Talk with your neighbors so you are all aware of each other and the safety concerns. You may be nipping any problems in the bud by cleaning up your part of the alley today. If your neighbors would make sure to watch their part of the alley, you will all be ahead of any potential problems. Are you the only rental on the block? If everyone else is a home owner, they have a vested interest in your concerns and will help you achieve your goals. Nice job!
ETA: Be very careful with that unusued garage. Are you able to lock it? Or could you rent it out to a neighbor if you don't ever use it. At least someone would be in and out of it daily, which would keep kids from using it as hideouts or homeless from trying to seek shelter.
Please don't ever go there in the dark! Be very careful.

Not saying you need a gated community, but do look for something in a better area. Houses get snapped up fast in my area, but there are some nice apartments to rent. $850 to $1200 a month gets a person a nice apartment. I'm glad our home is paid for, but there are those pesky taxes and upkeep that doesn't come with renting.

Yes, you do need to move.
And I have my paws crossed that you will find an affordable place in a decent neighborhood where you can take your 4 cats!

Thing is, I do not go looking for it.
I'm quite happy to have a boring, uneventful life, thank-you very much.
I'm hoping that 2020 will be a quieter year for me.

My garage is a one car garage, and the doors are locked from the inside. It's a barn-door style garage.
Kind of like this.
There is a side door that has a big, fat, padlock on it, and that too is always kept locked.
I do have stuff in there, but nothing of value.
Oh, it's a detached garage.
My neighbors tend to keep to themselves.
In fact, I met one of my neighbors only once, and that was when he moved in.
They are quiet, nobody coming and going from either of them.
Across the alley from me, is a family, and they'll occasionally throw parties, but when 10pm hits, all is quiet.
All I know about them is that they speak Spanish.
