Hmmm.  That has not been my experience with Target's Price Match Guarantee.  I suggest you call Target's Guest Services and ask about this.  The number is on Target's website.  Good luck!

@JanetsGirl thank you for suggesting I call Target. I called their customer service number and spoke to this nice man. I explained what happened, he was able to bring up my sales receipt and see I was being honest with him. He did not understand why they couldn't give me a refund. I will be getting a gift card for $9.00, I think he also was filing a report which means someone in the store may be in trouble ( which I usually never like to happen, but I was angry).

Great!  Calling the Home Office often clarifies things!  Let's not assume the worst -- the employees at your local store may just not have understood the situation and made an honest mistake.  Glad it worked out for you!

With you receipt, they should have definitely done a bit of good customer service and done your return.

They could have used the bar code from a new one if that was the issue.  I can't believe the manager would not do that for you.

Next time, tell them that you will contact "corporate" to resolve the issue....always seems to work for me.

@Mersha     yes. I often times email corporate when I have an issue in a store with employees for many reasons... and things get turned around REAL FAST.  I have mentioned to an employee/ manager that I can just call corporate and explain the situation,,,,amazingly  the problem gets fixed!

@Jordan2. So if it was the exact same product, why didn't you just buy it again at the cheaper price, kept it intact with the packaging, and used your first recept for the more costly one to return the second one?

Why didn't you just return it and purchase it again at the lower price.

That doesn't sound like any Target experience I've had. They've taken returns from me without any packaging (& on occasion without a receipt) by scanning the debit or charge card I used for purchase. Once or twice over the years when I've made an exchange, Target has credited the difference between a current sale price and what I paid at time of original purchase without my requesting any price change credit.

@Jordan2

I also had a problem with Target... I was at the checkout line, the cashier had checked out half of my purchases, suddenly a Manager walked over to the cashier and told him to void out my order and go help with a curbside pickup, pronto! So the cashier voided my order and said sorry you will have to go to another line to check out and start over again....  I was as mad as a hornet...I asked for the Manager and told her why couldnt he finish my order (there were just a few items left) or why didnt she tell  the woman at the self checkout station go help curbside there was no one there....or why couldnt she finish checking me out....And her answer was "sorry curbside is a priority per Corporate".....  I left my merchandise there and walked out of the store after confirming my order was voided.... Then I went across the highway to Walmart to make my purchases....  If Target says they are struggling with sales with stories like ours we know why....Woman Frustrated

So, a week ago today I went to Target to buy a computer mouse. There was one on sale for $11.99, I saw one I liked better, a Logitech mouse for $20.99 and bought it. I take it out of the packaging, it works great and kept it, getting rid of the packaging. So I see the mouse is on sale this week for $8.00 less and went this morning with my receipt to get an adjust. The woman at customer service says because it's a new week she can't go into the computer to do it. I would have to return it and repurchase it ( with the packaging I no longer have). I spoke to the manager and got the same story. I was going to shop there but was so angry I said to them I'm going to Walmart to get what I need, they didn't care. I had my receipt, they can see that I bought the mouse, it's not good customer service to make a customer unhappy. I do keep packaging for more expensive items, but why would anyone hold on to packaging for a nothing item?

totally get why you are ticked off, because I do stuff like that return, or rebuy

but I realized you can't chase every discount. file under life lesson

@jackthebear Yes pricing is a big game and you take a chance any time you buy on it going on sale soon, or being maked up soon.

My thought is if you bought something and the raised the price would you then go back to the store and give them more money?  No.

And yes, it is a game we all play now. Frustrating as it is.

Things are incredibly difficult now in so many ways.  The economy is so bad and so many are out of work and trying to make ends meet.

If the OP was in the designated return time frame, she definitely should try to recover the money.

I thought Target had a policy of refunding your money if the price was reduced within 2 weeks of purchase.  If that policy changed.  Honestly I would purchase a new one and return using the original receipt at the higher price.

All due respect, but you said it's a 'nothing item' not worth saving the packaging to return. That kind of means you didn't expect to care about price adjustments when you bought it.

If it were me, which it isn't, I'd let it go for the sake of my blood pressure. At the same time, if it makes you feel better to blow off a little steam about this rather than something else, I can relate to that too. Sincerely hope you feel better soon. xo
