Christmas in July came about because it's winter now in Australia and retailers can get a jump on the shopping season. To me, its overkill. I rarely watch and rarely order.

@PINKdogWOOD - You don't like my idea of Christmas? You have no way of even knowing what that is.

I simply made what I thought would be a useful alternative suggestion on how to deal with receiving unwanted gifts.

You clearly have some very bitter feelings about the holiday and the people in your life who celebrate it. But that's nothing to do with me. I'm just glad I'm not one of them.

WOW. All you have to do is change the channel and it's gone. What is the problem? QVC has always had "themed" presentations for Spring, Fall Fasions, Silver Shows and on and on and on ....

I haven't read past the first page of posts, so sorry if I am being redundant here ....

Years ago I read a similar comment about CIJ. Another poster's explanation made perfect sense:

A LOT of QVC viewers are over 45 and have families ... some rather large. A LOT of QVC viewers are grandparents with several grandchildren to buy presents for.

Not all older folks have the same mobility they once had, so going out and shopping, now in the covid era, probably isn't as likely as it once was.

It is a great budgeting tool for older folks on fixed incomes to be able to buy for family members and put those purchases on easy pay. They can get a head start on Christmas presents that will be paid off by the time the holidays are here.

Honestly, I hadn't thought of that. You'll notice that most of the CIJ items are on easy pay ... for a reason.

QVC certainly didn't originate the Christmas in July theme ... but they wouldn't keep doing it if it wasn't so successful.

Maybe you meant your OP as a joke. QVC hasn't got the power to "ruin" any holiday for you. Certainly, you must realize that.

I'm glad you addressed that comment. It had nothing to do with your suggestion regarding how to deal with unwanted gifts which seemed like a very common sense approach on your part. Sorry that tirade of anger, and more sadly the seeming disappointment, was directed at you. It reminds me of the quote that hurt people hurt people. I hope you didn't take it personally.

No shopping channel will ever "turn me off and make me sick of Christmas". Christmas is SO MUCH MORE to me than shopping. For THAT, I am eternally grateful.
