@Allegheny I'm having two huge trees behind my home 'topped' next week for that very reason. Better safe than sorry.

Hey, at least you don't have to pay for it!
We had a hellacious wind come through this morning with torrential rain but it didn't last long. I was at work at the time. Just returned from my usual lunchtime walk and there were a lot of limbs down and trash containers blown all over yards.
Now it's sunny and beautiful and near 60 degrees but the wind is still blowing pretty good. Here comes some colder weather for the weekend.

@Allegheny ..... We were 62 degrees yesterday. This morning about 7:00 the winds came in. Had a little rain, not much. Under a wind advisory until 9:00 p.m.The winds have only gotten up to 35/40 miles an hour but sound horrible. I agree with a few others .... the wind really bothers me. Hopefully they die down soon!
@Sheila P-Burg Right now it isn't that bad. Only about 20 mph with occasional higher gusts. From what I see on the on-line forecast around 4pm they are gradually going to diminish. No where near as bad as about 2 months ago. Had a hugh tree (thankfully in the woods) snap in half and a grove of maples totally uproot. Think those may have been straight line winds or even a dry microburst.

It was in the mid 60's yesterday and today it is 59 which is unusually warm here in South Central PA. Tomorrow is supposed to be windy.
Every area of the country gets bad weather sometimes. We get flooding and snow and sometimes high winds, but we have mountains that help with the wind. last year we had to remove a few trees from our yard because they were leaning and the roots were coming out of the ground. We had too much rain, over 61 inches.
Mother nature isn't always kind. The next few days are supposed to be worrisome for many parts of the county. I hope everyone stays safe and has a beautiful Thanksgiving, whether staying home or traveling.

Keep safe and we will hope for the best.

I live in Kentucky and we had 53mph wind gusts today. I was worried about my fence, but it has survived, thankfully.

Where I live in Northwestern California, we just had one hellva storm come through, where wind gusts were over 50 miles per hour.
And yes, tonight it's supposed to get down to around 30 degress, which is unusual for this time of year.
Does it get much colder in other parts of the country? Of course it does. There are places that regularly have sub-zero temperatures, but that's why I don't live there.
And an inch of rain in burn areas can cause a lot of damage.
I guess some have never heard of mud slides, or seen the damage that they can do.
But, be all that as it may, last night during one particular stron gust of wind, I heard a loud BOOM!
Today, I went out to survey my yard, and discovered this.
The wind had knocked down my fence.
No wonder my dad hated strong winds.
He was from Kansas City, Mo and knew the damage that strong winds could do.
I put in a work order with the landlord, but with it being the holiday weekend, it probably won't be replaced until next week at the earliest.
I feel your pain! We live in the upper desert in So. Ca. We also have a wood fence that would have been down if it wasn't for a strong row of olendar on the south side. DH will make the repairs after this storm is over.

@BlueFinch Topping kills trees...you might as well just cut them down totally. Otherwise they will just die off and become hazardous in the future.

That is sad and will be expensive and inconvenient.
I hope repairs will be expedient.
Stay safe.
