Re: How to save gas money when prices are very high

Not all of us have forgotten 2008, but I'm sure many have.  We're just trying to combine errands and appointments to limit gas consumption.  We're rural, so nothing is close.

The issue is bigger than what we pay at the pump, higher gas prices effect everything & I dread what's coming. The idea that people just want to complain is insulting & an excuse for those who created this mess by demonizing fossil fuels.

It goes like this cyclical.  In the 70's you couldn't get gas sometimes, lines were miles long.

We punish and restrict our energy industry, people go out of business, wells shut in, transportation methods and refineries get old and aren't replaced. . .

If are curious check out eia.gov--a government reporting site on statistics that are eye opening.  Don't just believe eveything you read.

@Kachina624  You are right about the folks with long commutes.

DD is in the long commute situation.  It is 70 miles door to door.  If she were to change jobs for a law firm in a nearby town they are all small 1 or 2 lawyer offices and it would be a big pay cut.  The smaller places don't offer health insurance and other benefits she has now. She has 27 yrs. in where she is now.

There is no public transportation near us. She has no one to car pool with.

Maybe working from home a day or 2 a week might be doable.  The whole firm did it for 3 months when the pandemic started.

Where she gets her gas it was $4.14 when she filled her tank, it was $4.45 an hour and 1/2 later when a co-worker got gas.

Or we could revisit the '70s gas lines.

I remember the 70's--long lines. While waiting in the lines I did an embroidery piece(from ghosties and ghoulies) and had it framed. Got it out the other day and hung it up in the TV room.

I don't drive much at all so the price I pay for gas is nbd. But I'm afraid of what I will be paying for everything else down the road.

ETA - The high price of gas isn't making me want to buy an electric car any more now than in the past. When I see that there are only 3 EV charging stations in my city, it makes it even less attractive.

Re: How to save gas money when prices are very high

@CoffeeNut   I buy my gas from Costco.  I'm an early riser, so when I want gas, I am in line no later than 6:35.  Months ago, I had only a few pickups on their way to work around me, but last Monday by 6:33 I believe 7 or 8 people were already at the pumps. Still not a problem, but later in the day when I returned to shop, the lines were all long.
