I drink tons of water until you feel extra full.
Then I hold my breath as long as I can, exhale then hold my breath again. I keep doing this for three or four minutes

When I taught, I had two methods that worked (and worked for myself too).
The first is to bend over from the waist and drink from the back side of the glass. The way it makes you take in air will break the cycle.
The other method is to take a half teaspoon of granulated sugar and don't swallow after you put it in your mouth. Let it slowly turn into a syrup and trickle down the back of your throat.
They both work.

I use the sugar technique. Only I use my tongue to rub the dry sugar across the top of my mouth.

When my step daughter got them, I would tell her I'd give her $5 if she could hiccup again. She never collected it.

It's a muscle spasm, so anything that will "break" the spasm will work.
I burp, or try to burp, as the hiccup comes. Works every time for me. Easy when no water is around.
