Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

[ Edited ]

My shopping habits have definitely changed.  Used to be just about every Saturday would find me at the Mall.  Had many stores and eating places then.  Since Covid, our Mall is basically empty of the stores I liked and I haven't been to the Mall in two years.  I clothes shop on line, mostly QVC.

What I am buying has also changed since I am now retired and do not need clothes for the office.  I have way too many of them now and no office to go to.  Mostly I buy casual clothes now and much less than 10 years ago.

Still like to go to Home Goods and Hobby Lobby.

I haven't been to the grocery store in years.  DH does all our cooking and grocery shopping.  He does go to the store and does not order on line for our groceries.

There is very little we need as we have so much of everything and purging is more important than shopping now.  Shopping used to be enjoyable, wandering the stores and browsing but those days are gone.

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

My small mall had Macy's Elder Beerman and J.C. Penney and I could find 95% of what I needed there.  They've all closed and there are just a few specialty shops left. I also shopped some at Kohl's and even picked up a few things once in awhile from Meijer.  I haven't been thrilled with the selection and quality at Kohl's since Covid.  Meijer did away with their dressing rooms so I rarely even look at their clothing now.  I now order almost everything online and have even ordered a couple of things from the Q which I never did in the past.

Grocery shopping hasn't changed for me except I now go early in the morning.  I started that during Covid and have continued to do that since crowds at Wal-Mart and Meijer are far less than mid-morning or later.

Before I retired I had 2 closets full of work clothes. And had to have shoes and jewelry to go along with the "outfit". It seemed like I was always on the lookout for items that would look good together.

Now I live in shorts or capris and cotton shirts. Haven't pulled out any outfits from my closets (except to attend funerals).

I donated tons of clothes when I retired but it still isn't enough.

The only shopping I do now is in regard to food. It seems that the only shopping I do now is grocery shopping or going out to lunch with friends..

And since the Covid chatter is ramping up again looks like I will no longer be going out with friends for lunch.

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

I shop online almost exclusively for everything now.  If there's something I want, I can find it online.  I absolutely do not do malls anymore.  No fun in schlepping from store to store, all selling the same stuff.  And the selections are so limited.  I do shop the same stores, just online.  And then there's Amazon.  I'm becoming better at searching out what I want on Amazon.  I buy most of my household items and necessities from Amazon Basics.  And I do almost all my grocery shopping online.  I love that!  When I do go into a grocery store it's just for a handful of things and the experience.  Oh!  Meal delivery!  Can't forget that.  I love that I can have meals delivered from almost every restaurant within a 20 mile radius....I think.  We order from UberEATS a couple of times a week.  It all makes for an easier, less stressful, better life.

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

I reduced my QVC shopping by 90%.
No longer need lots of clothes, but I still go to the mall. Our mall is still really busy with several new stores.

I'm shopping more at Trader Joe's, Target and Walmart for some things that are cheaper than my usual grocery store.

Lately, I prefer Sam's Club more than Costco because of being able to shop during early bird hours at Sam's.

Amazon is also a frequent visitor to our house.

@Kachina624      OH.....those CARTONS with the sealed flaps!!!!   WHAT do they glue them with????

I have a "fireman's screwdriver"...and I have to huff and puff...practically dislocate my shoulder...and it takes a half-hour of struggling to get those things open.

I think I'll go to Home Depot and get a CROWBAR.       di

@Desertdi.  The Premier Protein 12 pack boxes are just as you describe.  I've bent scissors, screw drivers, have broken fingernails and have gouged my hand.  I wonder if soaking them would loosen that glue?

I have acquired a cute little crowbar.  Amazon.  Comes in a box.

Only 82° here today!!!!

@Kachina624    I buy the Premier Protein, too....mainly because you and a few others recommended it here!   I did it because I was getting dental implants at the time, and figured a little extra nutrition would be helpful -- but I was so impressed that I kept it up...(so, "Thank You")

And YEAH....their cartons are MURDER!!!    di

Edited to add:   106 here today...BUT...and I can't believe it...we are headed back to the hundred & teens next week!

Even though I don't truly need more tops or earrings, I continue to buy when I see something that appeals to me.  My new location is super convenient -- almost too much so -- to shopping:  Talbots, Chicos, JJill, small "gourmet" markets, Costco, Home Depot.

When the weather turns cooler, I will do more deliveries.

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

I retired in 2016 and I was working from home so I really didn't need to buy any clothes but I continue shopping fashions from QVC with 2 closets full and just ordered a SG top. My main outings are to church but I look good when I go every Sunday ! Woman LOL

I shop alot from Amazon no fashions just everyday stuff, planters, keto chocolates, etc. I do shop groceries in the store now, I really don't shop instacart anymore post Covid. I was never a mall shopper.  I do shop online with Macy's and QVC for beauty items and occasionally into Sephora/Kohls just 5 mins from me. I'm enjoying retirement !

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

Same for me - retired now and have no use for a lot of clothes.  I do run into the grocery store, Walmart and Target from time to time but I never venture near our mall - unsafe and no stores worth visiting.  I definitely spend more time at home reading, gardening, cooking and cleaning and MY favorite thing: working out.
