It comes down New Year's Day!
I decorate with mostly a woodland theme and greens, so probably tomorrow I'll put anything overtly Christmas away, including the nativity and any ornaments on the tree. But I'll leave the tree itself (which is pre lit) up.
I like to leave the lights up through this week. Plus, we usually have a few people over on New Year's Eve, and it's festive with the tree and lights.

I guess I don't have a routine, I just do it when it feels right. This year the tree went up the day after Thanksgiving, earliest ever for me. It came down today. We had two young deaths in the family this year, and I was ok until Christmas Day, then, being with my folks, talking about it, brought the sorrow to the surface, and when I got home, I just felt I wanted it down. Maybe in my mind, I'm paying homage to my lost loved ones. I just really felt I needed to be ready for a New Year with a clean slate (or house in this instance).
I sincerely hope you all have wonderful holiday seasons!

@ECBG We did not do a tree this year, too many personal tragedies, next year will be better!

As a child we always waited until Three Kings which was either Jan 5 or 6. Today, I take it down when I feel like it but not in July! ![]()

When I taught I had everything done so when I went back to school and exams hit, it wouldn't be a double whammy!
What do you do?
It has always made sense to me for people who have to get back to work after a holiday break or have their work ramp up for whatever reason, to want to get things down and put away so they can get back to work without distraction and extra work @ECBG
It varies for me, but I never take down Christmas until after January 1st. and usually before the 15th. I don't work outside the home at this time, and I just wait until it feels right to get started (some days I feel better than others, and I really like to be as pain free as possible to get going with it!).

I took ours down yesterday afternoon at 4:00 when we got home from my sister's house. It had been up two and a half weeks and in our family, that's enough. Normally I take it down on the 26th but when we got home yesterday it just felt right to do it.
And all but 2 gifts have been put away.
Having our get together tonight with my husband's family at his nephew's house.
My mom used to want to take the tree down on the 26th, but us kids would pitch a fit and 'not allow it' (like we really had control of that!LOL), so I understand!
The one thing I can't stand is for the gifts to not be put away right away. As soon as the last paper is ripped off, I need to have things cleaned up. And I don't stop till all of it is cleaned up and the gifts put away where they go. When my son was little, I'd let him leave his toys out until New Years (or when school started again) but they had to stay in the family room and not on the main floor of the house where I could see them!

It went up the weekend before thanksgiving and it will come down New Year's Day. All the little Christmas decorations and Christmas village is put away already. We like the tree up for New Year's Eve.
