The tree (artificial) goes up a couple of days before Christmas and is taken down on New Years Day.  Not that I don't enjoy the tree, but I get a bit tired of the clutter....and yelling at two fur babies Smiley Happy

Also, we've always had a strange tradition in our family (I know, everyone does).  When I was a child, my parents would put up the tree after I went to bed on Christmas Eve, so when I woke up in the morning, I would think that Santa did everything (tree, gifts, etc). My mom was raised like this.  So, as a carryover, I like to decorate as close as possible to Christmas.  To me, it makes it more special to have the tree out for a shorter period of time (hope that doesn't sound too odd!!).

THis doesn't sound too odd at all!

Growing up, we never got to put the tree up more than two weeks before Christmas and my mom wanted it down by New Years. We had very few decorations and that shorter window of time to see them made them seem all the more special and exciting. Back then, no one we knew put up decorations as early as many of us do today.

I, on the other hand, have collected so much holiday and winter decor, and it takes so long to put it all together, I want to enjoy it for at least 6 weeks for all the effort and space it takes up in my life.

But I will admit, I kind of yearn for those old days where the anticipation of the whole thing was almost as fun as the doing it!

Our traditional tree in the living room will be all put away this Saturday.

Our Disney tree and all the trimmings in the family room will be put away Monday. It was also the first tree up, about a week before the traditional....I'm a Disney nut LOL

Re: How Long Do You Leave Your Tree Up?

My husband is an orthodox Christian and he celebrates Christmas on January 7.  We, as well as most people who live in this area leave everything up until after that date.  Our whole town is lit up until the middle of January.

It strikes me as odd for people to put up everything Christmas before Thanksgiving, only to take it down hours after Christmas Day.

Mine would come down today if I felt like doing it. I love Christmas but once it's over I'm ready to move on to something else.

I feel the same way.  I put mine up on Black Friday and it was down Christmas Day.  My family's main event is Christmas Eve and I just wanted my house back so down it goes.  It stresses me out as something that's waiting for me to do after the holiday is over.

We like to leave our tree up until New Year's Day.  I always miss the twinkling lights after we take it down though.Woman Sad

When my husband and i first got married (different faiths)....i wanted to do what my family always did....New Years Day we would take the decorations down........my husbands family would wait until the  Epiphany January 6th..................so it is a compromise.....I take most of all the other decorations away after New Years Day....and we take the tree down January 6th...

Re: How Long Do You Leave Your Tree Up?

This year my house turned out so twinkly and pretty, I can't stand the thought of taking everything down without having something to put in its place. So, I've decided to look for a couple pretty potted faux trees to put fairy lights in to help with the void of Christmas trees. Also I will leave the flameless candles glowing year round. That should help.
