I don't have any holiday parties to wear that stuff too.  Last year I had a wedding dinner to go to  and purchased a shimmery top.  

 

I use to work for a company that had a completely all decked out holiday party.  The dress was very formal for that.

Other than New Year's Eve, most parties are casual in my semi-rural area.
