We woke up to snow yesterday. It has been snowing today, the big, billowy kind of snowflakes. Our property is lined with spruce trees. So pretty covered with snow.

I am ready and in the mood to start my Thanksgiving planning. 🙂

Hi @Teddie !

It sounds beautiful where you are!  I'm finally getting in the mood, too.

Hi @Noel7!

My son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons came and stayed with us this weekend. My DIL and I were talking about the holidays coming up and we always have such a nice time so now I’m like you, gearing up for it!

We live on 120 acres so there’s all kinds of room to get around. Wish I could have you over for coffee and share my view!

OH, @Teddie , that would be wonderful Heart

There's just the three of us now, but we have such a good time during the holidays.  New traditions and old.

You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful setting.

If I remember correctly you have a daughter. I know what you mean by having a good time with just the three of you. I think it can be especially meaningful. Even though I love the new members of the family, sometimes I secretly wish my kids were little again and it was just us. Very simple and sweet. Just to relive it again.

Blessings to you as you heal from your recent hospital stay. You can feel very weak after something like that. Go gentle on yourself.

Thank you @Teddie !  That's very nice of you.  It was rough, I worried about coming home, but they gave me a Nebulizer machine to use until I'm past the respiratory flu.

@Noel7  Oh my goodness, that sounds very serious! You poor dear! I’m sorry you’ve been so sick. That takes so much out of you. Smiley Sad

How is your husband doing?

@Teddie

DH almost never gets sick, it's incredible.  Daughter came down with the flu the day after I went in the hospital.  They put her on Tamiflu right away.  DH was as healthy as ever, taking care of her at home.  I was in a "Contagious" room, all the staff had to wear masks to come in.  They tested me, of course, it was like ramming a pipe cleaner down the nose and throat, LOL, eeewwww.  Came back positive, I was shocked.

Way too early to think about menus at our house. We have a small family, but are never positive until often a day or two before whether we are cooking, or whether it will be other family at their house, or invited to BFF’s house - we all switch off. A couple of family members may have to work on Thanksgiving/the day after in any given year, so they like when we do it, and they do Xmas Eve.

Everyone’s on their own Xmas Day, between spasms of young ‘un present unwrapping blitzes and visiting. And we always invite friends/neighbors who have nowhere else to go, but that number has shrunk the last few years. When I used to visit, before I moved here, it was normal to have 15-20 bodies for holiday dinners, but no more; that was noisy chaos.

It sounds wonderful @Moonchilde

My mother was like that, she'd invite all these old timers for the holidays, friends of her mother, then deceased.  She never forgot anyone.  I did that for awhile after my parents passed.  Most of my Christmases have included a lot of really old men, LOL.

Trader Joe’d new flyer is out. Not that many really new things that interest me.

- Their own version of King’s Hawaiian rolls.

- Riced cauliflower stuffing:

“Breadcrumbs, be gone! For this new-fangled Stuffing, we take tender riced cauliflower, sweet carrots, and dried cranberries and combine them with leeks, onions, celery, and savory Thanksgiving herbs. It’s a fluffy, vegan twist on a holiday classic—and it’s also a timesaver. Toss it in a skillet with a bit of oil, cook per package instructions, and voilà! You’ve got stuffing.”

- Turkey cranberry apple salad.

- The turkey & stuffing chips are back. I have them with the cranberry-orange relish.

- A 1.5 liter bottle of prosecco for $13 - incredibly cheap.

Nothing else that caught my fancy. Early December’s flyer should have more.

Yes, I'm in the spirit! Yesterday, I was lured by the Target "dollar" section (which has charming items--kitchen towels, mini tree lights, holiday gift bags in red/black buffalo flannel check...just to name a few...) and then headed over to the holiday section for browsing.

I also purchased my "second oven" this weekend--a Breville--on sale at Williams Sonoma for 45% off. This will come in handy for the holidays as we do several big dinners and my daughter bakes her delicious pies.

I'm looking forward to all of it! Let the celebrations begin Smiley Happy

Your Target has different items then my Target dollar section. Next time I go I hope to get some mini lights and the buffalo check bags. They go with my red truck theme in my patio room.

@Nancy Drew

I saw them online, they don’t make them easy to find.  Look for the Christmas tree icon and then the section on home decorating.  One of the red trucks is sitting on a bookcase shelf, there are a couple of others here and there.

@Noel7  That all sounds really bad what you and your daughter went through. My goodness.  And you ending up in the hospital and being tortured!  It’s amazing your husband didn’t catch anything. I hope you’ll continue to feel better with each day and you’ll enjoy all the holidays!

Okay I found one for you @Noel7

I was driving through a tiny town last night dropping off my nephew for soccer practice.  They have their snowflakes up on all of their lamp posts already.  Usually I don't see that until Thanksgiving.  Way early than usual.  I guess they are trying to chase the heat away too.

Feel better!  Heart
