only when I am driving hundreds of miles, which I do a couple times a year.

However, to fight that, I do stop at every (and I mean every) rest station, just to put gas in my car - I will just top it off - run the little area to go to the bathroom and then get an iced coffee or iced tea.

If the rest stations have outdoor little markets - sometimes locals come to sell their fruits & veggies, I will check that out and buy some easy-to-eat-in-the-car fruit.

I get books on CD's and I have siruis radio, so that helps a lot too.

I will be driving over 800 miles in one day coming up soon, so that will be a fun day!! But I actually love doing long drives.

No, I can't say that I have and I've driven a lot over the years, still do. I think if it happened to me it would be some sort of wake-up call (no pun intended) to change my driving habits or perhaps even talk to my doctor about it. The roads are hazardous enough when we're alert and attentive ... the idea it's normal to zone out is scary.{#emotions_dlg.unsure}

That is why I stop at every rest stop!! I've done it before - when I was moving 3000 miles. The path from AZ thru Texas was a long day - lol

I hate traveling by car. That would be torture for me. Just be careful though

I think the most I've done was make a wrong turn because I was inattentive as to my destination, not my driving. I've almost got on the southbound freeway forgetting that I'm going to get my nails done, not my hair.

The only time I have arrived home and not remembered how I got there was many years ago. I had been spending all day and half the night at the hospital for days. When it happened I decided I needed to pack a bag and check into a hotel. It was an hour's drive home, late at night, and I must have been on auto-pilot with an angel watching out over me.

thank you, brii Smiley Happy

Just got my car looked over and everything is fine there...got my cat sitter all booked - had to find a new one this year because my other cat sitter attitude and actions last year just made me so upset

I just got to think about packing my stuff up now - lol

I like driving by car if I can. I don't have to worry about how much I can bring, my car gets great mileage - it is under $90.00 in gas costs to go that 800 miles - plus I have a car when I get there. I found that airfare, long term parking, car rentals was costing so much - not to mention the airport delays - just to go home and visit the family who are within driving distance within one day or 1 1/2 days.

I still fly if I have to go further than the midwest.

That would have been my reaction, too.

It's nothing for most of us in this area to drive to LA, about 700 miles or 7 hours, in one shift. I've driven from here to Vancouver several times, also.

I've asked friends on the East Coast why they don't' travel to visit other states often, it doesn't seem to be as common as long distance travel is for those of us on the West Coast.

I'm in the Midwest. We travel to other states all the time - Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. some are 1-2 hours away. Our summer home in Michigan is an 1 1/2 hours away.
