I don't know if my own devices have ever been hacked, but I don't think so.
I've had my credit cards compromised several times, but the bank and police never got back to me with information on who got my data and how. It could have been through a small or massive data hack, like Target and many other companies have suffered. It could have been through an online transaction. It could have been from handing my card to a server who copied the info. It could have been from a skimmer on a machine.
Texas has had a serious problem with card skimmers on gas pumps. Not just on the outside of the machine over the card reader, but skimmers INSIDE the gas pumps. It's been so bad that now I go inside to pay the clerk inside instead of sliding my credit card at the pump. You can read more about the internal skimming devices here: https://www.star-telegram.com/news/state/texas/article215173755.html

My Texas city was notified yesterday by the Secret Service that a third party had hacked into our cities system and got payment information for many citizens regarding water bills and municipal court fees and fines. Said the breach occurred between June and Aug. of this summer. The federal gov. is still investigating. But our system has now had additional security measures placed. It was all in the news yesterday and they are contacting all citizens possibly involved in case they missed the news.
Did not say who or where the third party is located.

I too live in the Lone Star State and yes skimmers at the gas pumps are indeed a problem.....
The worst case of a skimmer was at a branch office of one of the major banks in town installed right at the banks drive through ATM, it made the local news You would think the bank would check those daily and security cameras too..........

off the top of my head. I know we have been alerted from the bank about a possible problem.
what sticks out for me that i really remember was. Someone tried to steal our car insurance. that was a huge problem for me. I was getting calls from car insurances (major names) asking us what kind of car insurance we need. I told the 1st call i had no idea what they were talking about. 2nd call came,3rd call came in all within half hour of each call. i lost count of the calls. I finally asked what was going on to one of these car insurance people. the gentleman told us that we were in need of car insurance and our name was on some kind of car insurance web site requesting quotes and such. this man told me what site it was. I asked him if he could contact that site and let them know this was bogus problem. he said he would. these car insurance sales people pay $25.00 for each name lead they get off this site. He said he would alert this site. I also contacted our car insurance company (major one) and sure enough someone tried to get policy number and such, a huge red flag was on the policy alerting of problem someone was trying to get info that wasn't us. They put a freeze on our policy no one could get any info about numbers and such. we were still insured but there was some kind of protocall that was put into effect. I contacted our house insurance place and anyone else who could possibly contacted with insurance with us. after 1 week, all the calls stopped.
I also know my facebook account was hacked too. got notified from a young man friend of my family. i changed all the passwords and such on many of my accounts after this breach.

Not "hacked" but the office of our lawyer who handles all our family/estate stuff was broken into and we got an email about it. Made me mad that ALL the most important info of ALL his clients was so easily stolen. We got a new lawyer (this useless one didn't even offer credit monitoring for a couple of years or anything! Not even a good "sorry") and a tip to you all....ASK your family lawyer if YOUR info is safe/encripted/locked up at night.....etc. or not. Now we get to worry about ALL our info out there...... even more info than the credit info!

Your story is why people should take precautions with junk mail with your name and address----- sometimes thats all the Identity Theft people need to enable them to use your info to run a scam.....
I want to share how there were 4 women at the dumpster at our Condo Complex dressed in smocks they had carts and special sticks going through the trash. When I asked them what they were looking for they said cans/bottles to cash in, but those were in the blue recycable containers right next to the dumpster-clearly labeled, and those were never touched....so what were they fishing for????!!!!! I did notify our Security at the Complex ............

Yes. Several years ago there was a small amount on my American Express that I knew I had not made. Probably a trial balloon. They replaced my card.
More recently my Discover card was replaced. Don’t know what happened in that case. I never saw any unauthorized charges.
