@software & @sunshine45 you should shred them or black out your name, not just throw them in the trash or recycling.

i do not shred them or cut them up.
of course they have my name.....so does all the other mail that comes to my home, much of which i throw away. they would need a lot more information than just my name to try and get a credit card in my name. i am also subscribed to multiple credit alerts via creditkarma and some other credit cards that i already have......they tell me almost instantly if someone is trying to open an account in my name.

@sunshine45 @The ones I cut up only require a 30 second phone call. They are preapproved and there's a code on the paper that you tell the service rep. You don't need any other information but the code. Thanks for the tip about Credit Karma alerts.

I had forgotten about those! I signed up to quit getting them years ago and have never received any since.

yes, i get those and i just throw them into the garbage or recycling. i have occasionally signed up for the credit cards if they are a good deal or offer some type of bonus. you STILL need to provide a social security number which is NOT on the prescreened offers.....neither is my financial/work information.

Yes, glad I did. The only people we receive solicitations from is Capital One because we had a credit card from them 20 years ago. I guess that legal loophole goes forever.

@Mindy D No need to get any prescreened offers for credit cards in case of an emergency. If you're credit-worthy, plenty of issuers will sign you on-- most likely a company with which you already do business.
Remeinfer to everyone - those prescreened offers almost all come with your correct name and address on them Be careful how you discard them.

I shred them at the speed of light. What I also hate is pre-printed checks that come along with my credit card statements. Those are really dangerous--what if you mail gets into the wrong hands? That's why I have as much of that kind of thing as possible sent to me electronically.

I agree about those pre-printed checks. I assume those are basically to get an advance on the credit card. Bad, bad, bad. Next time I get them I'll call the CC company to see if they can be eliminated.
I don't know why but we've not gotten a CC promotion in a long time. Now about those robocalls...

It's called an Opt Out and yep, did it years ago. I only have 2 cards, but if you do business with a card company they can send you offers.
I got a few checks recently but check your rates and terms before tossing them. They can offer a better rate and terms if you're considering a big ticket item vs swiping your card.
