Has anyone signed up to stop receiving prescreened credit card offers? If so, what was your experience like? I am a bit hesitant to sign up in case I wind up needing to use one of these offers in the event of a dire emergency. If you signed up, are you glad you did? Did these offers stop coming or was signing up a waste of time? I found this to be the case with lsigning up to be in the do not call list for phone solicitors.
I'm sick of shredding. This weekend, I was low on trash bags so I didn't want to empty my shredder out until I got some new bags. I decided to just closely snip up a couple of offers into teensie tiny bits. Well, I discovered that these offers have numbers and identifying information all over every page and it took a really, really, really, long time just to clip up just one. I also get catalogs from companies with preapproved offers blasted all over the outside and inside pages. These are an incredible PIA.

Yes! Years ago. So happy to be off those annoying mailing lists.
And, I periodically make sure if any other nuisance mail is slipping through, to call and ask the company to cancel the catalog (and any other companies they sell their lists to).
What a waste of trees, landfills, and low postage rates to destroy junk mail with your name and address on it. I encourage you to end it all!!
If you need money for a rainy day, begin saving NOW and keep one credit card freed up for such an emergency.

I was complaining about "junk mail" because I wasn't getting mail I needed and my mail carrier got upset, she told me that's how the post office makes money, on junk mail.
I get at least one, sometimes 2 a day, they go right in the trash.
I have more than enough credit cards..
My DH gets them too, he passed 8 years ago

Years ago, I got so many of those offers I started writing "remove from your records" on the darn thing and I'd stick them back in their postage paid envelope and return. It took a couple of tries per bank but I haven't gotten one in years.
If you ever want a new credit card, you should do your homework and pick the best deal, not select the card that picks you. With those offers you still have to go through the approval process, it's not automatic.

I signed up a few years ago and I have to say it worked.
I still get offers from banks and CC companies where I still do business though.
I am glad I did.

@sunshine45 @You just throw away PREAPPROVED credit offers without cutting them up?

@software @Do you just throw out the envelopes that day preapproved right on them, without cutting them up?

I did years ago.
