@BalletBabe  Amazon has been called on the carpet for letting vendors post fake reviews- by the hundreds! It was in the news not too long ago. Sorry, I don't have the link.

@furbabylover  Oh wow, that explains a lot.  I know when I have bought stuff they will give you a free item for a good post. I have to love it to give a good post.  That is interesting.  I Knew something was fishy.  Thanks

Huh?    I have NEVER gotten anything "FREE" from Amazon.....and I place about 2 orders a week with them (and yes, I do reviews).

@Desertdi @BalletBabe @furbabylover

1.  I believe it is against Amazon terms for a vendor to offer a gift for a customer to leave a good review or for removing a negaive review.

2.  In order for a vendor to leave his/her own review, they would have to be a verified buyer.  So unless they are opening multiple accounts under different names. not sure how that would work.

eta:  Verified buyer for reviews.  Anybody can ask a question or leave an answer to one.

No matter where you read reviews you will always find negative reviews that have nothing to do with the product.

"It arrived late".  Well yeah-so did the item fit/work/last more than a week etc.?

"Didn't like the color".  Ok-personal preference but did the item fit/work/last more than a week etc.?

"Shoes were ugly".  Ok-so didn't you look before buying?  Again, personal preference-but did they fit?  Too narrow?  Too wide?  What???

"My three year-old couldn't make this".  Box says ages 10-12 years.

"It was too simple for my 10 year-old."  Box says ages 2-4 years.

And the all time favorite:

"Should have read the description better".  Ya think?

Then the questions esp. on Amazon:

Q:  Where is this made?

A:  I don't know I didn't buy one.

Q: How often do the batteries last?

A:  I don't know I didn't buy one.

Q: Can I use my older games in this newer version?

A:  I don't know I didn't buy them.

Q: (Insert)

A:  I don't know.  I bought it as a gift and haven't heard back.  (Must have made a great impression.)

Q:  (Insert)

A:  I don't know.  I haven't used it yet.

You can't judge by the overall stars. What I do is look at the one-star reviews first, then the three-star reviews, and then some of the five-star reviews to get a good feel about the product. Of course if the product has a huge number of reviews, I don't read every single one of them.

I'm speaking only of Amazon here as I don't shop at QVC but do a heck of a lot shopping on Amazon. I try to stick with Prime items because I know that I can return at no cost if necessary.

That's what I do @suzyQ3.
