@BalletBabe - I have a few friends in FL, and they have relatives also living in FL. I am praying for all of them and everyone else in FL. Another friend's son, a student at the University of Tampa, was told by someone at that university, "Leave if you want to live. Stay if you want to die." As the son has an apartment right on the beach, it is expected that everything (apartment, and its furnishings, that his parents paid for) will be destroyed by the storm. He evacuated and went back home to his family in Connecticut.
I am still praying for everyone affected by Hurricane Helene.

Raining pretty hard, but no wind yet. It is now a Cat 4. They just said about 12 to 14 hours to landfall, but they are saying it is changing so much, and it could still wobble.
I need to move after this. ABC action weather has the best weather.
it is moving slow...

My prayers are with you, our other Florida posters as well as everybody in the path of this storm. I have elderly relatives that are inland but I'm still very worried about them. Stay safe!!!!

Quiet here in Fort Myers. Looks like we will be spared the worst. Tampa area seems to be the storm's target right now. We. have all our shutters closed anyways.

I saw a video on people preparing for the storm. There was one man (in his 60s maybe?) who was disabled and had half a leg but his SS disability payments had stopped so he had very little to live on.
He has a small boat where he lives with all of his worldly possessions and claimed that he was going to try & ride out the storm in the boat. He said that he could swim even if he couldn't really walk.
I kept thinking that his boat will probably smashed up and he will drown or be killed by the strong winds and water.
He did have some people concerned about him and were trying to get him to go to a shelter.
